Kids were excited to have Allen Lazard officiating game. Why would all-Big 12 receiver drive to Grimes at 7:30 AM on a Saturday for this? Allen told me he really misses basketball. This keeps him in it.

Great stuff here.

Always like stories of players doing things that contribute to the community...there's a lot of things out there for a college student to do that are far less productive.

AL's character would never be in question...the guy has stuck with a place like ISU regardless of the situation around him; that's becoming more unusual in college athletics. D

Wonder if there's ever a conflict over calls.

A grade school excercise for my nephew was to write out his Chrismas wish list. At the top of his list was to be on the Cyclone sideline with Allen Lazard.
Who shows up at his grade school to meet him a couple of weeks later?-- Allen Lazard.

A lifetime memory for that kid. Thanks, Allen.

Even though I'm a born and raised and married to hawkeye I love seeing native Iowans don the uniform of the home state schools and represent their teams and communities. I feel like Lazard will end up being your guys version of Tim Dwight with little things like this cementing the legacy...

..... now We can go back to disliking each other's teams :)

Somebody needs to wear the "blind Big 12 ref" costume to one of his games.
