Why are Farmers never happy?

Unless you've ever farmed for a living or grown up in a family that farming was their main source of income then you probably ought to be careful posting threads like this. If farming were so easy and lucrative then a lot more people would be going into it as a career instead of ******** about how their work wants them to start coming back into the office again.

It's a tough occupation and weather, inflated costs of operating inputs, market prices for the crops and animals you sell, and sometimes just plain bad luck are a lot of variables that can make the difference between a good year and bad one. Those of us with desk jobs usually have a good idea what we are going to bring home for income going into a year, farmers don't have that luxury as just putting a crop in the ground doesn't guarantee a good income if the perfect storm of costs, weather, and market prices cuts into their profit margins. If you raise livestock and you have a dead calf that animal basically lost you money for the year. Lots of things to consider that if it was your time and money invested how frustrating it can be that some things not in your control can hit your pocketbook unexpectedly.

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate farmers and their work. But holy **** they ***** about everything. Too much rain, not enough rain, too much wind. And then they expect the state government to write them a subsidy check for it. I have no problem with people getting the help they need, but if local farmers keep getting subsidy checks then they should stop ******** about the poor getting some welfare help as well.

Only subsidy I get is of crop insurance, and I thankyou, I also pay taxes to support local services, like schools. which I don't mind.

No CFAP or WHIP payment? No tarrif bailout payment? The subsidies absolutely have to stop but the politicians won’t stop because it’s a great folksy feel good story to talk about when they stop at Ma and Pa’s Diner on Main Street in a small town in a brand new flannel shirt they’ve never worn.

Some farmers *****, some don’t. Usually the ones that do the most ******** have the most time on their hands. A lot like the cave posters on here.

How about instead of the government interfering in the free market of commodities and then needing to offer subsidies to make up for their f@ckery they just let the free market be a free market? Why does the government have loads of USDA employees paid to estimate crop yields in order to give traders information to speculate on?

So who is it a shot at because i sure hope you dont mean me. I grew up in a family that raised cattle (and still does still on a much smaller scale now) and my in-laws who have crop farmed and raised livestock for multiple generations. I may not know everything and don't claim too but I know enough that I am comfortable debunking some of these blanket and vague statements and comments from people who don't have a damn clue about agriculture.

Because the govt wants a handle on the food supply and in order to get that info from the farmer they “buy” it through farm programs.
