Why does OSU still get so much love as bubble team?

When Oklahoma State lost to ISU that made them four losses in their last five games all played with Marcus Smart. What might surprise you is the only game OK State won in that stretch was a game Smart fouled out with only 4 points in 25 minutes. Oklahoma State lost 8 of 9 games in a row which shouldn't even put them in the AP Top 25 for a long time to come, at least it wouldn't for any other team. Many teams could say well we were in a slump and you know we are better but they don't get a free pass. I don't know of any team that has gotten into the tournament based on what experts thought they could have been. The only way Oklahoma State should get into the NCAA tournament is if they win the Big 12 Conference tournament and then get the automatic bid.

The best 50 teams do not get into the tournament it is about the top 32 and not even all of the AP Top 25 made it last year. The other spots have to be available for conference tournament champions. When the tournament champion has already earned a spot then it leaves room for a few bubble teams.

A couple of years ago a team apparently won their conference tournament and made the NCAA tournament with a losing record. I don't feel that is fair to much better teams that don't get a bid. I would like to see the smallest of the Division I schools be in a separate division as the #16 and other lower seeds don't do anything for the #1 and other high seeds game either.

Which team from the Top 25 didn't make it in last year?

Easy. Network would be hoping for more Smart drama. Between Floppin' and Boppin', he is media gold.

Huh? Have you seen the resumes of the teams fighting ofr the last at-large positions? Okie State has the same resumes if not slightly better and most of their losses have been in the #1 conference in the sport. And there were not any teams that finished the regular season in the AP Top 25 that didn't make the tourney. #25 VCU was a #5 seed, #24 Notre Dame was a #7 seed, #23 Creighton was a #7 seed, #22 Wisconsin was a #5 seed, etc... Maybe you looked at last year's preseason AP Poll by mistake. And wasn't it just two years ago that TWO #15 seeds won their first round game?

After seeing Smart return and his team dismantle TX Tech, I'd say they have a better than a puncher's chance of making the NCAAs.

Baylor and osu have some tough games against tourney teams left. IMO if thee both get to 8-10 and win one in the B12T they are in.

Long story short, if KU goes to OSU and wins, OSU is dangling by a thread.

Not impossible to get in but nearing it.

If OSU gets in the tourney as a 12 seed, that would be a horrific draw for whatever 5 seed gets them.

That'd be a bit ironic if they got a 12 seed considering how Oregon beat them first round as a 12 seed last year and made a good run. Oregon was not even close to a 12 seed.

I think it is as simple as recognizing that NCAA MBB is a media game, not just a basketball game. OSU had lots of media attention during the off-season with Smart returning and having a high pre-season ranking, even being seen as the most likely to unseat KU. Those opinions don't easily disappear, even when games are lost. If they make a run, then the media get to say that they were really right all along. Not many in the media, CW is the exception, will admit to making bad predictions.

Hey. I already said that.

Because in both CFB and cbb analysts decide who they like on paper before anyone even plays a game and their own confirmation bias keeps them from reassessing events as they occur. They tell themselves "These guys are too good to not get it clicking eventually," or, "These guys had no stars or offers, they won't be there at the end."

If you believe in the averages, they're probably right most of the time with that thinking but they make some pretty high profile whiffs too.

Very good chance that would be the case.

Baylor is safer than OSU right now, but both are in decent situation and have chances to solidify with remaining schedules. If they both win out at home, they're in. Not automatic, but that'd be simplified path.

Re: why does OSU still get to much love as bubble team?

Personally I think OK State is still a really dangerous team and worthy of being in the tournament if they get to even 19 wins...Baylor is not going to do anything in the tournament should they get in.

I feel about the same going into our game @Baylor as I do about OK State at home. Smart looked like the lottery pick hype Smart yesterday.

You must not have seen the firs half of Smart's last game. He was 1-11 shooting in the first half and didn't score his two points until near the end of the first half. I'm sure many teams have excuses fr losing games they thought they should have won but teams shouldn't get in just because they think they have good excuses. Even some of the AP Top 25 probably won't even make the NCAA, happened last year.

That's just my gut how I feel though and I know the selection committee will look at it in a more rational way.
