I would like to see ISU football in the top half of the league. I think that was a goal for Coach Rhoads when he took over several years ago. To move from the bottom half to the top half of a league is not easy and it can take several years. It takes time to change the culture, implement your system, build recruiting relationships, and develop depth. It can take several years of gradual improvement, but it can happen. I thought that the first four years under Coach Rhoads I saw the gradual improvement I was hoping for. The players gave good effort and there were several major upsets that showed that the team was building confidence. It also seemed that there was improved depth. And then last year happened. Losing to UNI was bad, but how we lost, with UNI controlling the line of scrimage foretold that 2013 would be a tough year. Worse was having Sam Richardson hurt the first game with no experienced depth behind him. It appeared our improved depth was a mirage. ISU recruited 8 jucos last year but only about half of them saw the field this year. Now the reason why I am frustrated is that the last two years the trend has not been that of a team continuing its improvement, but of going the other direction. I feel lie the team has digressed back to where ISU football was when Coach Rhoads took over and that the rebuilding process will start over again for another cycle.
