Why only 30 games?

When looking at the Big 12, the only two schools to only play 12 non conference games are us and OU. Why didn't we schedule a 13th game?

I don't think finishing 22-9 vs 21-9 would make a huge difference for seeding, but I'd assume an extra game at Hilton would be good for revenue?

I'm kind of surprised they didn't schedule some scrub non-DI team. There's no reason not to, I can't imagine you would have to give them much money, it's a guaranteed win, and it doesn't ding your RPI. Several other Big 12 schools did this.

As long as it isn't Morningside, I'd be okay with this. Ever since 2000, Morningside scares me.

Only played three games as a part of the MTE (Multi-Team Event, this year the Orlando Tournament) rather than 4. The only way you get 31 is if you play a 4 game MTE instead of a 3 game.

NCAA actually allows
27 Games
1 MTE (can be 3 or 4 games)
Conference Tournament.

Yeah this. Its typically why most of the tourneys have games on the campus of the schools involved. Not sure why the Orlando Tournament doesn't do this, but it cost us the 13th non-con game.

Consequence of us selling too many season tickets: the marginal increase in revenue from single game sales is not enough to justify paying another scrub team.

You can play one of the other tournament teams home or away, but it has to be within 10 days of the actual tournament. It's a really weird rule. UNI played in the Tire Pros Tournament in Orlando this year and then took a game at Xavier that Xavier will return next year, but because it had to be within 10 days, they ended up playing Xavier in consecutive games. Not exactly ideal.

I'm a bit surprised Iowa State didn't try to buy Indiana State or Quinnipiac.

Hilton Magic is dead no one wants to go there anymore, they just used that open date for a deep cleaning and to bring in wrestling recruits.

Does it make you feel better to spread your crap around every basketball thread now? It isn't enough to keep it in the resurrected threads?

We add another game to a crap team, hurts our rpi. People complain.

We don't add another game. One less game to watch and hurts our overall record. People complain.

I like that we're doing a home and home with Missouri, just wish they were better. However, with a young team might not be all bad.

With having a young team next year and Missouri being our first game I'm glad they suck. It's going to be good to have a team that could test us for the first 10 minutes.

I think you are confused. UNI played Xavier twice in 6 days but that had nothing to do with the above. The first game was in Orlando at the Tires Pro Inv and the second game was @ Xavier. The reason they played them twice was because the road game @ Xavier was already on their schedule when they were selected for the Tires Pro Inv.

Nope, the road game at Xavier happened because both teams wanted to take advantage of the 4th game from the MTE. They were placed on opposite sides of the bracket in order to try to avoid doubling up, but they both made the title game. Notice Xavier has a 31 game schedule because of that game (UNI wasn't able to find two games and only played 29 because its impossible to get anybody decent to come to CF, no matter what kind of check we offer). Instead of UNI getting a guarantee check to go play that game, we worked it out with Xavier that they would return the game next year instead and play in Cedar Falls next December.

Related question: Is there a minimum number of games a team can play in a season? I can't imagine what the motivation might be to schedule fewer games, just wondering what is allowed. Teams would be obligated to play conference games, obviously, but what if a Big 12 school decided it wanted to schedule only 8 'purchased' cupcake home games in non-conference. Could they do that?
