Only issue so far is I couldn't connect to a new wifi signal. Disabled and enabled the wireless card connected right away then.

I have this issue on one of mine too. The error messages are less than helpful too. I don't think it has anything to do with the video card. It's just a stock Toshiba laptop.
I got impatient yesterday and ended up installing it using their Media Creation Tool. No major issues so far, but on some webpages and in the text editor I usually use the text looks pretty terrible. Not sure if that's my video card or what.

Ive seen that with 8.1 as well. Might see if there is a newer driver for your nic.

Haven't gotten the update yet, but I did get an email saying basically, "yeah, we know you don't have it yet...be patient".

That's ok, though. Looking forward to it, but in no rush. Plus, I have this great thread for when I do get it. Any issues I may have will probably be answered here.

I think that my next OS will be open source Linux Distribution. Never upgraded to Windows 8.1 besides it being a POS were the security vulnerabilities that Snowden showed the CIA to have. Here is another one to consider for those who have "upgraded".

Once again, Microsoft screwed the world with its Windows 10 feature called Wi-Fi Sense. This nasty feature has serious legal implications for it will automatically connect your personal Wi-Fi network to anyone in your e-mail list using HotMail, Skype, or Outlook, and even Facebook, making those friends questionable. If any such person comes within range of your home Wi-Fi, they could secretly access your system from hundreds of yards away.

The real problem with this is rather sinister. The government would no longer need a search warrant for your surrendered privacy; good luck finding a judge who will uphold the rights that exist only in your imagination.

I just saw the new “Terminator” movie. The AI computer that decides to eliminate humankind begins as a system called “Genesis” with exactly the same profile – to connect you to everyone instantly. While I do not believe that we are dealing with such a creature, I do worry about the full Stalinistic powers this provides the government, as this will grant them access to hunt down anyone who dissents from their view. Suddenly, we all become the next Snowden since disagreeing with the government is now TREASON. Such powers are not necessary, and while Windows 10 supposedly allows you to opt-out, this setting is the default – they know what they are doing. The vast majority of people do not understand computers and they will be surrendering all rights to Microsoft without understanding what they have done. Why is Microsoft acting in such a hostile manner towards human rights?

This old man will not be installing Windows I0, I trust Microsoft, Apple, and the U.S government all equally--nada. I do not want automatic updates from anyone. I love Linux because my computer is what I want it to be and not what someone else thinks I should want or need.

The only surprising thing about this post is how long it took you to write it. I figured for sure you'd have been all over this days ago. Nice Terminator reference, though. That's a nice touch.

You do realize you have the option to not turn on Wi-Fi sense, right? It's not mandatory, it's optional. Granted, there are a lot of idiots that will gloss over that fact with a "whatever" attitude and accept it without thinking twice about it, but it took me about 5 seconds to realize that "Wait - there are people in my Facebook friends list that I really don't know that well and no way I want them having access to my personal info" and I declined. If anyone wants access to my WiFi when they visit I'll give them the name and password then. But why does anyone that lives 500 or so miles away from me need automatic access to my internet? That's just stupid.

You bounce so quickly from one conspiracy to another, how do you keep track? An Excel spreadsheet?

It's not hard as you just take a basic premise and build upon that. I don't need to dig up the details as other people with more knowledge in the area can manage. I know it sounds Looney Toons but it happens. Just look at how many idiots get arrested after posting a video to Facebook. The cops definitely use social media. I just don't understand why Millennials are so willing to post so much information.

Can't go wrong with a Leveno Yoga. The Yoga 14 was CR's highest rated convertible, and I doubled up on memory and hard drive, and got a docking station for under $1K.

Toshiba is pretty good too. Probably can't afford the Qosmio line for under $1K, but 4 years later mine is still going strong - and I game like crazy on it.

Now that I think of it, the one bug with my Win10 install I've seen is that on my Toshiba laptop, if I press the button to turn off the trackpad, it $***s it's pants and forgets who it is, no remedy but a restart.

Windows 10 now installed on my 'other computer'...the HP Stream mini 200 'desktop' that's hooked to my TV. That one took some doing, since it's really a windows answer to a chromebox, so it's really stripped down, doesn't have much for hard drive, is intended for cloud storage. Had to install using an external hard drive, and there were a lot more hitches than my laptop.

Well, I just got it last week, so I didn't really have anything on it...figured if I bricked it somehow, I could wipe it and start over without losing anything anything. I honestly didn't know that I could install with an external hard drive either, but I thought I might have enough space free (just under 3GB) for it to work. It went thru and after checking for space, gave me the option to either try and run disk cleanup (which wouldn't have done anything, had already cleaned out everything I could), or to attach an external hard drive. One item of note, it said I had to keep that hard drive handy in case I needed to install a fresh copy of Windows later on. For me, with what I got into this box (in both time and money), I didn't care, but for others, if you're well invested into your computer, it might be risky. But, if you're that invested in your computer, you likely have enough memory to install it locally.
