Windows 10

So if you haven't heard, Microsoft announced their new Windows program, Windows 10. They also released a technical preview available for download now. For anyone that's hating Windows 8, I recommend that you download it and give it a try.

So far, I like it almost as much as Windows 7. They went back to the old desktop format, but with an upgraded style.

Has anyone given this a try yet, and have you encountered any issues?

I am currently running the Technical preview, and really like it. I think it's going to be a hit, similar to how 7 was.

I will say that I never hated Windows 8 quite as much as most people did, but they have also put a lot of improvements in it since it became 8.1. 8.1 has been extremely smooth for me, and has added a lot of things many people realize because they were stuck up on the start menu. Multi-monitor support is so much better in 8.1 than 7, and they've upped it even more in 10. I can tell a lot of the icons and things are works in progress, but I haven't had any hick ups so far. I am running in a virtual environment right now though, wasn't quite ready to re-partition my drive yet for it.

I really would like to try it out on a Surface pro 3, I'm very interested in the transitioning from mouse/keyboard to tablet mode

I obviously prefer 7 to 8, but I don't think I have as big of a problem with 8 as a lot of people seem to. I'll have to try this out.

8 wasn't bad once I got classic shell going on it and disabled most of the touch stuff.

10 will be the 7 to 8s vista.

So if the pattern for Microsoft's operating systems continue, the new OS should be successful and popular. It's been an almost perfect trend since Windows 98.

I just don't understand why Microsoft felt that I'd want the same GUI for both a tablet and a PC for Windows 8. I couldn't for the life of me find what I needed on the new settings menu.

And, it didn't recognize my tablet. Windows 7 fine, 8 thinks it was something else altogether and wouldn't let me update drivers.

But mostly I was just mad because windows 7 just worked and worked well.

They skipped 9 because windows 95 and 98 both start with a 9 and could cause compatibility problems with poorly coded software.

We have 8 on our desktop. Both my wife and I absolutely hate it. Apps are great for phones and tablets, but I absolutely hate the concept on the desktop. Hate not having a Start Menu. Yeah, I get it - I can download something that gives me a virtual Start Menu. But why should I have to do extra work for something that shouldn't have been messed with in the first place?

It's so typical Microsoft - have a great OS like 7 and have to screw with it so it operates like a tablet, and completely mess it up in the process.

You pin frequently used programs to the taskbar and you'll nearly never have to use the start screen.
