No way Nebraska is 2nd on that list. Nebraska actually has a bigger athletic budget than all the the schools on that list and that is during a time when they have had their worst football in everyones lifetime. If they are raising that kind of money when they are at their worst, then they have tons of potential to raise way more. The only real negative is fan expectations and even that has dropped yearly. The right coach could go in there and make a difference in a hurry by taking advantage of the NIL and transfers. They might not be super elite like they used to be but they could be consistently better than all the teams on that list.

Indiana is like Kansas. Nobody really cares about football. Plus, they have Notre Dame and Purdue in their state. And they are fairly close to Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State.
Kansas did beat Rutgers by half a dozen touchdowns just a few years ago.
You read that right.

That's an interesting point, and once they do away with divisions, I think you can add Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota, Purdue and Northwestern to that list. Iowa would avoid the list only because some years their schedule will be playing those 8 weakest teams.

Other than Kansas, I'm not sure you can say any Big 12 teams will never play in the CCG.
even when kansas was really good that one year they didn't make the conference champ game. I didn't realize that. Lost to mizzou last game of the season so mizzou played ou. almost feel bad for them. wait, no i don't.

Orange Bowl is quite a consolation prize.

I just posted that so I could post a picture of the twins:

Indiana.

You're, at best, the 5th choice of kids in your nearest population centers and you've got no history to lean on. You haven't been to the Rose Bowl since 1967 and nothing that anyone would consider an upper tier bowl game since the Peach Bowl in 1990.

Nebraska is a remote outpost in that league (and will have to go to LA every year going forward no matter how they set things up). Also, unreasonable expectations from the fanbase given the talent in the Midwest and considering the competition also recruiting these players. Who would want to coach there?

Fitz has worked miracles and while the admissions requirements are tough for Northwestern, at least they're close to a major city.
The campus is fantastic right on Lake Michigan, you’re in Evanston, right near Chicago, and if the administration doesn’t care if you bounce between 5-7 and 7-5 you can coach there forever. Not so bad.

I mean, living there is streets ahead of living in Lincoln or Bloomington, IN, or Champaign or arguably even New Brunswick (although you’re just a short train ride from New York there).

I asked about money because there are a lot of challenged jobs there but 2 mil a year vs 600k would make me tolerate a lot. On the whole Nebby is worse due to unreasonable expectations. They do however, have cash to spend.

Rutgers because no one cares. Nebby #2 because their fan base is beyond stupid when it comes to expectations.

I didn’t pick them, but Northwestern may be the hardest place to coach at. I think Fitzgerald is probably the most underrated coach out there.

I voted Rutgers. East coasters tend to be professional sports fans.

I understand the dislike for the Huskers, but they have historically won games. And I would never say a coaching gig is bad because fans have unrealistic expectations. I would rather have fans that care than an indifferent or non-existent fan base. Nebraska's days of 10 win seasons are probably few, but no reason they can't consistently win 7-9 games.

Indiana is tough because they are similar to KU. Lack football tradition and fans are happy being JUST a basketball school. I only know 1 Maryland fan and that was 25 years ago and I would put them in the basketball school fan base as well.

I said Nebraska. Reason being that they have high expectations for their program in relation to their current reality.

All of the others, don't have the same expectation of being a blue blood. The next would probably me Maryland, but only because I think their athletic department is financially struggling; but that should change with getting a full share of Big10 revenue now.

My initial thought was Rutgers, but I changed my opinion to Nebraska. Sure, people at Rutgers only care about their football only as far as it provides a sizable Big 10 paycheck. But in the end I think that’s worse than the unreasonable expectations that come from everyone at every level at Nebraska, where there is an expectation to return to the glory years of the 1990s and earlier. If that was all it was it would be fine, but the arrogance and toxicity that comes from a program that hasn’t been relevant nationally in 25 years surpasses people just not caring.

Not exactly sure.
Rutgers was only getting like 18MM in TV revenue up this this year. They are now full shares so that place should improve.

I’m it’s current form, it’s Indiana. Have ND and Purdue in that state and bordered by OSU and Michigan. Throw in the east division and it’s nearly impossible. Although, they did beat OSU in the second half two years ago as Hawkeyes liked to point out, lol.

Originally picked Illinois, but I think it’s clearly Nebraska.

Illinois, Indiana, Rutgers? Their fans don’t care. Boosters may not even care. If fans and boosters don’t care, you don’t have a lot of pressure there. Hover around .500, slip into a bowl game every now and then, you’re fine. I guess Indiana and Rutgers have it tougher since they are in the (much) stronger division.

Northwestern is so much different than any of the others. I think Fitzgerald is amazing. I have a hard time remembering what NW was prior to him as a player and now coach. I would think anyone else would struggle there, but is it a tough place to coach? I don’t know.

Nebraska’s expectations are the deciding factor. They think they should win 10, 11, 12 games a year. Win conference championships and be in playoff contention. Those days are OVER, but their fans/boosters don’t seem to realize it, and now you have Trev Alberts as the AD. Coaching there would be dreadful.

If all things are equal I think NW would. I think they're a Fitzgerald move away from being Vanderbilt

They were better with Gary Barnett in the 90's. I think Northwestern has an underrated fanbase/student body. You can sell Northwestern as a life decision for a lot of decent athletes the same way Notre Dame does. A Northwestern degree is worth a lot when your NFL dreams get crushed like a tomato. Plus, all you have to do at Northwestern is get to .500 or a little better. Anything after that is gravy.
