Worst Iowa State Team Ever?

Even asking this question shows either a very bad memory or no sense of history. The worst team ever would have to be the 1994 team. 0-10-1. We would sit in the student section and chant "Up the middle - up the middle - up the middle - punt!" It was a team that ran the triple option and didn't have a single player top 400 yards rushing. They lost UNI, Western Michigan and Rice.

There seems to be something different about this them than the others mentioned. I don't think we are nearly as talentless as some of those other teams. In those games, our guys just looked physically outmatched. This team, it appears there is some real talent there. Unfortunately, they have made several dumb plays and it appears they aren't being put in a position to succeed by their coaches.

The 80's. Most of the 90's. The 60's and part of the 70's. Some of the years in the 2000's. Basically we have had decades of sucking. This year we at least have the excuse of bei.g young.

Again I hear about how much talent this team has, this is an urban legend. I don't know who promotes this notion, coach Rhoads on the banquet circuit, John Walters, Jamie Pollard, or fans on a message board? There is some talent at a few positions but that is really as far as it goes. Overall team talent is still suspect at best. Is recruiting really getting that much better? OK too much honesty on a Sunday morning, time to focus on the NFL schedule today.

There is some talent. Just not a lot of experience, injuries, some poor coaching, and what is turning out to be a really tough schedule so far. They just played 4 of the 5 best teams in a high scoring conference.

Well said. I was at ISU in 94 and was going to post about the "Up the middle-up the middle-up the middle-punt chant." Not winning a freaking game all year makes it the worst team ever. It was so bad I was actively rooting against ISU midway through the season just so Walden would lose his job. This is the only time I've ever rooted against ISU.

LOL. Its not even close. 2003 was un-watchable. There was a game against Colorado we left with like 5 mins left in the first half, and we had 1 yard of offense at that point. I think we finished the half with 30 yards total offense in that game. In our 8 conference games that year, we scored a total of 71 points.

You must also have a short memory - The UNI game sent this season down the crapper.

Yep. That's what did it for me. I could have stomached a loss to UNI where we turned the ball over a ton of times and basically shot ourselves in the foot. But UNI physically and mentally dominated us at basically every position on the field.... including coaching.

I knew after UNI that it was going to be a 2 or 3 win season at best. If UNI physically dominates you, what are Big 12 teams and Iowa going to do to us? That should have been a sign right from the start.

That 2007 team was effing awful. Shaggys game versus Iowa was great and all, but my god, that team was an absolute train wreck. Like atomic explosion sized train wreck.

They had three wins including K State and Iowa. I'd take that season over this one.

People have short memories.

2008 was far worse. 2003 was far worse. Most of the 90s was far worse.

The Texas meltdown sent this season down the crapper. We win that game things are different IMO. That loss was just too much and the difference between 1-3 and 2-2 is huge.

I'm looking at scores from 2003, 2008 - 2008 looks just like this one except two wins. In 2003, at least we beat UNI.

Not even close to the worst team ever, and I've been going to games sine the mid 70's. The entire Walner regime is 8 years of regression in the program. this team has some young talent and IMO some more talent coming up in the next 2 classes. Rhoads needs to find the right coaches to coach them up

Not really sure why this thread needs to be kept around.

How is it not a fair question? Our team is very very bad.

We lost to UNI
We lost to Baylor by the 3rd largest margin in school history
We've been outscored 129-34 in our last two games
Our only win is against 2-5 Tulsa (This is not the same "good" Tulsa from last year. They're terrible.)
The final score against Iowa was close, but the game was a blowout.
I don't think we'll win another game this year.

I never said we're the worst team ever, I just wanted the small handful teams that were worse to be identified.

This team is probably worse than the Chizik squads.

I agree. This reminds me of Waldens last year or Macs last year. Worse than the Chiz teams. Just wait till ksu blows us out and then ISU loses to KU late. It's going to be a cesspool around here.

on a related note a practically head coachless Gopher team in 6-2. Say what you want about Big 10 competition, but sad..... Missouri which may thought would be smoked in the SEC...sigh
