Y'all elected Jesse Ventura. I don't think I need to say more.
And Al freakin' Franken.

I get it everyone makes fun of the people that live south of them. Arkansas makes fun of Louisiana, Missouri makes fun of Arkansas, Iowa makes fun of Missouri, Northern Iowa makes fun of Southern Iowa, Minnesota makes fun of Iowa. Those of you from northern Iowa feeling superior to southern Iowa are on the same level as all those Minnesotans who constantly have to tell you how much better their state it.

I can tell you're one of those hillbillys from Southern Iowa.
I just moved from Iowa to Minnesota for work and Ill I've got to say is grass is always greener on the other side. There are plenty of things about Iowa that I miss since moving here.
When Jesse Ventura manages to say some of the most bigoted, racist things ever uttered, sits idly by while the state turns into a hog **** infested sump, and gets rewarded with reelection for it...I might agree.
Minnesotans are the worst when it comes to bragging about their state. They think they rival Texas in how much pride they have in their state. They all associate themselves with athletes from there as if they are all best friends (Tyus Jones for example, ask a Minnesotan about him next time, and I am sure you will get a lecture) with them and they continually judge everything based on how it is "back in Minnesota". I was born there and moved to Illinois, and being a MN sports fan it is easier for me because I usually agree with what they are saying, but other than that it is infuriating.Minnesota people are strangely infatuated with their state. It's a nice place, sure. I've just never heard people from any other state so consistently mention how awesome their state is.
As for Iowa. Admittedly, I do think most of the state outside Des Moines, Ames and Iowa City is a dump. I was a little shocked how bad eastern Iowa is after living in CR for a year. NW Iowa is surprisingly arrogant, but it is a lot nicer than southern Iowa. Southern Iowa has a unique landscape that makes it more interesting than NW Iowa's massive stretches of corn, but that's about it. Don't know much about NE Iowa, but it is the most beautiful part of Iowa, and it has some weird but charming Scandinavian culture.
I grew up in the Des Moines metro, and I definitely took for granted how nice it is.

I misread, my bad hahaHuh? I was just sayin' roundball don't like no one denying the awesomeness of Minnesota, so you better watch how you steppin'.
Looked pretty rough to me on a recent business trip there and looked a lot like the run-down river towns throughout Iowa. I expected a lot more I guess. Plus, the only thing open for lunch was a crappy mexican restaurant.
Algona and Charles City? Lollerskates. Charles City has had some very recent section 8 housing issues, but that's about it. Algona is as typical of a Midwestern town as there is.
Fort Dodge is a **** hole, and as I said earlier should be on this list. Postville is a little run down, but it's not as bad as it's reputation, and passes the "eye test" much easier than most of it's southern counterparts. Postville 10-15 years ago was probably in that convo though. Since the raids, it's more typical rural Iowa.

Yeah, Algona is not rough in the slightest.
