$1,499 Apple TV teased in Best Buy survey - CNN.com

Best Buy wants to know if you'd pay $1,499 for a 42-inch, high-definition Apple TV which uses your iPad or iPhone as a remote control.

The question describes a 1080p LED flat-panel screen and access to Apple's iCloud service, iTunes, Netflix, YouTube and Flickr.

I would think I would pay maybe $800-$900 for something like that no more though. I am sure there are tons out there that would buy it just because it is Apple though.

Nope. In general i'd rather get a good tv (like a samsung) and then attach other good devices to it. And $1500 for a 42" tv is nice and pricey.... my 46" samsung, that has plenty of internet enabled apps was like 6-700.

Hard to say, I have the small roku-like appletv and the interface is great. App support not so much yet. If the full blown appletv opens up to more apps and responds to commands and gestures like rumored, maybe. But then again, those arent must have items to begin with.

No, because it's just to easy to link your actual computer up to newer TVs and accomplish the same thing for $5-10. The only way it would really make sense, imo, would be if you were planning on eliminating your home computer and just using the TV

Meh, it would depend on how it compares to other 42 inch tv's. I don't mind buying a roku box or an xbox that takes care of the internet stuff if I can get a better tv for less.

With the apps, that's why i'd really like to see googletv take off. Theyve made some acquisitions that should help (motorola mobility being a huge one, as they make a ton of cable boxes).

This tech will definitely push other manufacturers though. Apple can afford to take chances and much like their other IOS devices it could absolutely kill competitors.

I can already control my tv from my ipad. Why do I want to pay 2x the price for that same feature.

Here's my other thought, I bought an LG flat screen a year ago that had Netcast built in, which basically had all of those features except iTunes/iCloud. That tv cost like about half what the proposed cost of this Apple unit is. Will people tolerate the same mark-up in TV's that they do for other Apple products?

I would pay $100 for an "Apple TV" and attach it to my 55" tv. No reason to by an apple specific TV for that much money when the little box allows the exact same thing, and will let you surf the web and watch netflix. If you're too attatched to your iphone to put it down in order to change the TV Channel, there is a problem there.:skeptical:

Obviously, this survey was completely hypothetical. No one knows if, when, at what price, and with what features Apple will release a TV. Will it have apps? Siri? Gesture controls?

Most importantly, what kind of content features/packages will it provide? This is what the future is riding on. If you can drop your cable/satellite provider while investing in the iTV, that may be the deciding factor. Pay more upfront for a lower monthly bill with more personal control and accessibility of your content?

What are you using as the go between? Satellite control box?

There is a logitech harmony adaptor that will turn virtually any smart into a remote control. The box connects to your home network and sends IR signals to your devices.
