I cannot say this about all Big XII or even Big 8 universities but after watching a bunch of of old reels, West Virginia is a classy organization and we should do what we can to keep them in the Big XII. Adding Cincy is a plus. WVA took a chance on us when we didn't have a heck of a future.

They should be rewarded for banking on us. I can see some dumpster fire love for West Virginia. I can't hate them. I want to beat them but I cannot hate them. WVA took a chance on us when the Big XII was in flux, let's help them out with regional rivalries.

Plus their fans are great - the ones I know and the ones I met have all been great. They love Ames and the restaurants and the tailgating. Good lord, they have to fly outta Pittsburgh to get here.

Just sayin' - We are better off with West Virginia in the Big XII.

West Virginia should feel right at home in the Big 12. No other power conference wants anything to do with them. Their neighbors in Virginia and the Carolinas look down their noses at them and call them hicks and hillbillies. Perhaps WV fans simply have too much fun to suit them.

Based on the way their football players treat our old assistants, how their MBB team plays the game, and having their student section hand out flyers for how to hurl personal insults at opposing players, I disagree they’re class.

I enjoy them, but I also enjoy my mullet-wearing, anti-public education and anti-science uncle - fun to watch from a distance but kind of embarrassing to say you’re related

-Geno Smith pushing Wally Burnham to the ground
-Dana Holgerson
-Thuggy ball
-WVU player punching Monte Morris
-Fans verbally harassing DeAndre Kane's mother
-Student newspaper's garbage list of things to chant at opposing basketball players
-Fan shining laser beam in kicker's eyes

I'm sure I missed some but all are reasons I would never consider WVU "class". However, I was pleasantly surprised to hear how many of our fans are treated well when visiting for football games.

These are fair criticisms, but I've been to a number of football games and basketball games in Morgantown and always been treated well and show hospitality from the Mountaineer fans.

I talked to a few, and a recurring theme was their appreciation of being in the Big 12 -- finally a real "power conference" instead of the Big East -- and wanting to be friendly to its other schools as a result. They realize they're in a million times better position with us than they would have been if they ended up with East Carolina in the American, so they're appreciative of the conference throwing them a lifeline.

The only bad thing was a drunk WVU fan made an unfortunate comment at me once at a basketball game... right in front of security... and they immediately walked him out for his trouble.

So yes, I've enjoyed having them around. They're much nicer than, say, Iowa fans.

I've never been, but I've seen several ISU fans say they've never been treated better as an opposing fan as they have been in Morgantown.
