People who think Campbell would only leave for Ohio State or Notre Dame and that’s it are crazy. Not saying he will leave. However, there are a lot of coaching jobs he could leave for and it would not shock me. The problem is his resume is not up to snuff for the big boys. So any move he makes would not be a huge improvement over Iowa State. I could see a lower level SEC team taking a shot though.

I don't know. How many years do we have this discussion before we don't? He'll be on his 10th season with ISU next year. I just don't think he wants to go somewhere where it's less about developing kids, and more about buying them.

None of these other jobs will even attempt to understand a coach that is process rather than results motivated. Matt Campbell can keep up with that for as long as he likes at ISU.

Different story in the NFL where even the good teams lose 3-4 games (or more) a year...

Hate to say it... but i am.worried about usc. He almost took ot last time, and I'm guessing they cut ties soon.
Lincoln has an 88 mil buyout. While i have no doubt they have money don't see them biting the bullet on that price tag. The new NIL era has largely made job security tighter since on top of that 88 mil buyout they would have to shell out cash for a whole new team in NIL.

That is the key. There is NO WAY Alabama, Georgia, etc. would hire him, because the fan bases would revolt. For one thing, his skin is not thick enough, and Campbell Ball would infuiate them. As for the lower level SEC programs, why would he want to do that besides a big payday before he is fired after a cycle?

There is definitely a glass ceiling in the SEC named, Alabama-Auburn-Florida-Georgia- LSU-Tennessee with Texas, Oklahoma and maybe A&M the only ones with a realistic chance to reach that ceiling (maybe this year for Texas or A&M). That glass ceiling is that not a single school besides those first six-* have won an SEC Championship since Ole Miss won it in 1963 before SEC Football integration.

*-Technically, Kentucky has a Co-Championship from 1976, but it was due to a forfeit after the season was over, so that doesn't really count.

Testifying
In regards to the USC rumor, I was on vacation in Anna Maria Island a couple summers ago.
Wearing ISU, someone came up to me and said "we almost got your coach." I 100% assumed they were a FSU fan. They said USC (and they are a booster). They said Campbell flew out for interview, then had wife come and she's the one that shot it down.
Remember, he was content at the time in Toledo but she made him listen to Pollard. She has also had house remodeled/worked on.
I think if he ever leaves, her voice is absolutely critical in that decision.

Good for her. If you have kids, you know that family comes first. I think a move from Ames to LA would go against everything Campbell is about.

I'll take some of whatever you are smoking if you think a low level SEC job is even on his radar. Wtf are we doing here, this thread is a largely embarrassing showcase of our ridiculous inferiority complex we've built over the last 50 years.

If he leaves for USC or almost did, great who the **** cares? It would only be for the money not access to success, and we all know he isn't driven by money. I could meet some ******* USC booster on a beach at Saylorville saying we almost got your coach, yet that doesn't mean what they said has any basis in reality.

We are on the eve of the biggest football game in ISU history and this idiot thread is at the top of the recent posts. Y'all got problems and it has nothing to do with Campbell's decisions after this season.

JFC people, I started this tongue-in-cheek. Every year some one starts a thread about him leaving. Thought I would get all that crap out of the way.;);)

Agreed and he seems like someone completely opposite, culturally, of USC.

I've always thought that there was enough smoke for the USC job that he was probably pretty involved. I'd like to believe he talked to them, maybe it got further along in the process than he had before and then he decided he was out. But who knows? I also thought that it kind of fell at a perfect time for him to be looking (he'd been here 6 years, that good class was graduating, etc). Honestly not that unlike this year....

I do think the USC job would have been a VERY weird fit for him, so it makes me think that none of is know what type of fit he actually wants.

I do disagree with a lot of people that think a Michigan or Ohio State or Notre Dame wouldn't be interested in him. I just think there aren't a lot of good options out there for a team and while he might not be a first choice, he'd easily be a solid second tier guy.

That being said, if I were to worry about any jobs this year, I'd be worried about the Browns.
