Lots of people here who were born after 1985.

The only answer is Jerry Moses.

Agree, he was the top RB recruit in the country out of Waterloo East. ISU beat out the likes of Alabama to sign him. I think Jerry would have been one of the first black players at Bama if he went there.

tyease thompson
greg coleman

if i recall, these two along with jason scales all played as true freshman. tt went to jail and coleman transferred.

safety anthony forest. looked pretty good in his early career, then ruled academically for the boise bowl (i think). never saw him after that. i think he was a sophomore. he was the guy who tried to kick the ball out of the back of the endzone against OU when they killed ISU in 02. not his best work, but other than that he was solid.

colins eboh. played as a true freshman at de? then disappeared.

david irving. he was going to be a beast this year. was.

shaban dika. wasn't he supposed to start every year he was here, and then blew out a different knee ever year?

edit: oh, i was supposed to pick the "best" oops. in my time, i'd have to go with berryman.

Chris Brown was a safety(?) that was in on breaking Petersens collar bone. JJ bass would have seen the field a lot more, but had some problems in the locker room which had in an eternal dog house.

I thought Petersen broke his collar bone somersaulting into the endzone.

So, for those of us not collecting Social Security, what happened with Jerry Moses?

Chris Boskey...never the same after his knee injury. May have been better than Mike Stensrud.

Injuries. Really weird ones too. Caught his foot in a hole on the practice field on year and lost a year with foot/ankle issues. Knee injuries his last two years. Freshman were ineligible at the time, so he only had three years to play.

I don't think you can understate how huge of a recruit he was. Waterloo East had the national record for consecutive games won. Bear Bryant was in Waterloo trying to recruit a black athlete to the South. He was one of, if not the, first black recruits for Alabama. Johnny Majors said that Moses was better than Tony Dorsett who he coached at Pitt. He still is, arguably, the best recruit the state ever had.

57 carries, 256 yds, no TDs is all he had.

Also the father of Milan Moses.

Who is the reason I've heard of Crohn's Disease; tough luck that he found out he had that while at Iowa State.

My answer to this question is a bit different: Hiawatha Rutland. He was the starter on the heels of the Davis brothers and Ennis Haywood, so I just assumed that he would be just as good. Nicht... Nicht.

Agree with Steve Lester. On the first possession he caught a pass and outran 2 Oklahoma DB's about 80 yards who had great angles on him. He had a great game. I've never seen a receiver who hustled and blocked so hard.

I've been watching a lot of old ISU football games and saw some good players through the years that were victims of injuries, stupidity, and some from playing on a crappy team. I remember a safety who was a real hard hitter Deondre Jackson who I believe broke his leg tackling Adrian Peterson in the end zone. I always thought he had a real opportunity to be big.

What player would you submit that had the most opportunity to be a star but fell short due to other things listed above?

Jerry Moses
