#1 Repair your ball mark on the green, and learn how to do it the right way!
#2 If you don't putt out on the greens, you are not playing through....period.
#3 Just because a course may offer free tees, don't take a handful every time you walk through the door.
#4 I will stop smoking on the golf course, when you stop tearing it up with your golf cart.
#5 If my waiving at a gnat while standing directly behind you bothers you, you are focused on the wrong thing my friend.
#6 Stay off my ball. I don't need your help telling it to 'go', 'get up', 'sit', 'get down' or 'suck back'!
#7 Double check that Titleist before you hit it. It's the number one ball in golf, so it might not be yours. Know what number you are playing, or invest in a sharpie.
#8 Golf is not a hunting and gathering sport. Buy your own golf ball, play your own golf ball. If you see a ball that doesn't belong to you, leave it where it's at.
#9 If I'm playing against you for money, don't ever say, "Wow, I never play this well"
#10 If I'm playing with you, against someone else for money, don't ever say "Wow, I never play this bad"

just one time....Convince your buddies that you each get one 'throw' during the round, but you have to play it as it lies. Then, next time one of them tees their ball up, grab it, and throw it 50 yards into the nearby pond.

If number 6 really does bother you then maybe you need to refer to your own rule #5.

It may shock you, but some people actually like to see good golf shots hit and so they may get a bit excited during a round and speak out. What a rough round it must be for you if someone actually wishes your golf shot well......

If its going to take you 5 hours to walk the course, take a damn cart. Nothing pisses me off more than having a 5 hour round because someone likes to walk slow around the course.

My experience is that it's usually not walking vs riding that causes a course to back up. It's usually more the result of hackers who spray balls all over the course and then take forever looking for their "good" ball. The other main cause of slow play are groups that go into slow motion when they get to the greens.

Yep, one of my favorite things to do on the golf course is talk to my ball while its in the air.

1. Don't tell me you shot an 80 and I only beat you by 5 strokes (not counting your 3 mulligans on the front, 4 on the back, 3 lost balls you didn't count, 4 "foot- wedges" from behind trees during the round, and 15 gimmie putts from 3 feet)

2. Don't tell me how last week you shot a 78 but somehow today you'll do good to break 100

3. Fix your damn ball marks on the green and at least one other one

4. Don't give me golf tips when I didn't ask for any

5. Don't tell me how you are going to buy the new "insert brand name here" driver because you can't hit your current one. Invest in some lessons and make the round more enjoyable for both of us next time.

Best rule ever! I know I'm not a great golfer and I probably do things not always by the book. That doesn't mean I want to be constantly critiqued by some one who is beating me by two stokes. Just let me play. It's even worse when a stranger you're matched up with does it.

right but you are now taking up a full tee time just to yourself when it can be used to accommodate 3 other players, and on top of that now open up a tee time for another 4 some to play... so buy playing by yourself you are making it harder for others to play also... thats why they do that

I can see why a course would want to fill as many tee times with 4 people in order to make money... but if that's the case I'll pass on a busy day. It's no fun playing with strangers...

i agree with you on this one... except when the personally is saying "what the **** is wrong with my swing, and its a pretty obvious deal."

Agreed. I've been tempted many times to just drive down and hand someone a ball. First of all, you can tell the type that are taking a penalty stroke for hitting a ball OB and those who are not...and the people I am invisioning aren't taking a stroke. Second of all, you pushed the ball about 50 yards into the heart of the woods...give it up.

I agree with this. I understand why courses may combine two-somes, I'd almost rather not play with two other people I don't know. I don't mind embarassing myself in front of my friends. I almost get nervous around other players and it really bothers me. Also, I know how my friends play as far as gimmes, mulligans, foot-wedges and such, but when I'm with people I don't know, I usually avoid doing those things because I'd rather not hear their comments.

What are you talking about? I'm not the person saying not to say something while my ball is in the air. I could care less what people do while my ball is in the air, I just like to talk to it.

sorry i thought you were being a smart a**.. my fault.. im just noticing that most of these rules that people have are so serious and so not fun. Just wondering what kind of groups these guys have. And maybe thats why so many are saying they dont want to play with anyone else.. cant find anyone that wants to play with them

This rule can also be applied in reverse. If I am playing well and you are looking at shooting 100 on the front 9.... Don't keep asking me to help fix your 60 yard slice. There isn't anything I can do for you other then to suggest you go get some lessons from a professional.

If you want to ask me after the round I would be more then happy to help you out but when I am on the course I am only going to focus on my own game.

Agreed. I'd say in 18 holes only about 12 of the holes my ball actually ends up in the cup.

I don't mind when folks pick up their ball & don't putt out/move their ball every shot to get a better lie/take a bunch of mulligans/etc. but if you're doing all this type of stuff don't plan on comparing scores with me at the end of the round as if we played on a equal footing.

1. Repair ball/pitch marks and divots. As someone else mentioned, try to find at least one more pitch mark to fix on each green, and learn how to fix them properly. I consider it a great pleasure to fix my own, and it pisses me off to no end to find greens looking like the surface of the moon. Oh, and rake the traps and put the rack in the bunker.

2. Pay attention to other's in your group. Know where their ball is, particularly on the green, and stay the **** out of their line.

3. I play the ball down (unless I'm playing in a tournament, and "winter rules" are in play), don't take mulligans, and I putt out (I paid a lot of money to hear that sound). I don't give a **** if others don't do these things, but don't tell me you beat me if you don't play by the "rules", because you didn't.

4. As mentioned, play ready golf. If you are not playing to pace, let other groups play though (I will do the same).

5. If you don't have a 4-some, expect to be paired up. Not having a 4-some is screwing your course.

6. Be respectful of the "cart girl" and tip fairly.

7. Where khakis and a collared shirt for christ sake

I agree with this, a lot of two foot putts can be missed. Heck, a lot of pros can miss two foot putts and I don't think there are any pros on CF right now. For me, one of the best sounds in golf is hearing the ball go in the hole. I always finish the hole out no matter how short the putt is. I don't really care what other people do but thats just my preference.

I agree. I can, and do, play faster walking than 90% of people in carts. This is mainly do to the fact that many groups feel the need to be "chained" to their carts, like their legs are going to fall off if they walk 10 yards to their ball.

No need for all for players to drive from ball to ball of everyone in the group either. Go to your ball, get out, pick a club. Partner goes to his ball and does same. When its time to hit, play ready call then get on the cart and go.

I play golf to get out and have a good time with my friends. I don't play (and pay my fees) to be social with strangers. Nothing annoys me more than showing up with a friend or two, and having some dude standing around the first tee box say, "Mind if I join you guys?"

Interesting... You don't like people joining up with you, but then you also don't have enough people to fill up a foursome. I see a pattern here.
