Well thats not being a good teameate if he is tranfering.
Nice of him to wait until Kempt was back though.

This is his 6th year alreadyACL might give him a medical chance at 2 though, right?

Appalachian State woukd make sense. I actually predicted him transferring there last week but not until his senior year.Seems to me like a guy that would prefer to be closer to home.
I don’t blame him, either. But unless he has academic concerns that he needs to focus on, “deciding to transfer” in the middle of the season and semester is remarkably...suboptimal.I have no info but the guy worked his tail off all his life to PLAY QB and now he might feel like he's looking at a 4-year Seneca Wallace in front of him. I wouldn't blame the guy for wanting to go somewhere to play.
Phil Bates 2.0
I tend to agree with this. It wouldn’t make sense to transfer until at least semester, and from his tweet congratulating Purdy and everything that’s been said about the closeness of the QB room there has to be more going on other than just being disgruntled. Is there any reason to leave the team mid-season if you've already redshirted?
Maybe there is a legit personal concern . . . sick parent, etc.

Bates made that one sweet catch against Iowa.
I know he has so many years to play but could keep competing for the spot and iowa state has a history of going through starting qbs. He could also make the most of his time and compete in practice and watch film. I have nothing against him personally just wish him the best.
