The QB talent ISU has right now is really daunting. Zebb looks like the total package when it comes to pure talent. Then Devron Moore, a large, athletic, strong arm. Then Re-al Mitchell a mobile run threat who can throw as well. Not to mention there's the chance Park makes it back to the team. Things look great for us in the next 4 to 5 years.

If Park does not come back, do they bring in a grad transfer or juco for extra QB depth? With Moore not being 100% until next year and Mitchell being a freshman, would they need an extra for backup?

Honestly Oklahoma State has the best WRs in the big 12.
They’re good, but put our WRs with that line and QB all year, and the production is the same. No one in the conference is as good at fighting for the ball as Lazard, and ours are better at blocking. Just think if the refs hadn’t stopped calling the PI and let them hold like Ok St.

And I thought at the beginning of the season that we would finally go a year without a quarterback controversy. Boy was I wrong.
Do you also think we have a RT controversy?

We love drama, but there’s not a controversy here. Our starter and most ready QB went on leave. Like most times you lose a guy mid-season that you planned on being the guy, there’s not a clear backup and several guys will need to contribute.

It’s not a controversy when you’re playing backups, particularly when caused by injury.

I feel better about next year with Noland as the heir apparent now.

The guy has Park's arm and hopefully none of Park's drama.
He physically has what you can’t teach- a good arm and a fairly quick release. I have confidence in this staff not to waste it like the previous regime. We’ll see if he’s as apt at making reads and the placement on horizontal passes as Kempt.

Good testament to Kempt and Noland and their preparation. Both came in and played very well. It takes a lot as a backup to prepare like that when you don't know if you are going to play. That says a lot about the staff and the players' leadership to develop that culture.

While I understand everyone's hesitance after Jantz, Barnett and Richardson starting strong and regressing, those are irrelevant to what happens under this staff.

I hope Kempt gets healthy and they play both of them the rest of the way. It’s not like both don’t have strengths and weaknesses and it won’t affect next year at all.

Talk about a gutsy performance. We will see if it continues, but the offense sure seems to function better with Zeb in there. The offense is much more confident, up-tempo, physical, and less conservative. I have to imagine there are more play-calling opportunities in play now as well.

Im thankful for Kempt for the last few weeks and I feel terrible saying this, but this has to be a permanent change. This game would have been a blowout if Kempt had stayed in there. Zeb is honestly a perfect blend of Park and Kempt in terms of shear ability and smarts.

Hes young and made a mistake at the end of the game but I love this kid's future.
I thought the offensive play call overall was very good, UNTIL the very last series. We have the ball first down on the 4 yd line, with all the time in the world. I have never liked the fade pass. With the best thrown ball, it is a jump ball. And throwing it from that short field to work with, is a disaster in the making. Why not throw a pass head on to one of four different receivers. Repeat for four downs, if necessary. Very disappointing.

I'd feel pretty good about going into next season with Zeb as our #1, but if Park isn't back next year, we HAVE to bring in a transfer or JUCO or something. No way can we have Moore and Re-al Mitchell as our back up QB options next year IMO. They just aren't ready.

It's ironic how posters can post how great our coaches are in one line then complain about their play calling in the next. CMC said the reason for the passes was the fact we only had 40+ seconds and no timeouts. While I hated to see how the game ended I am very pleased with what this team showed through out the game, coming back time after time after getting behind early in the first half. Hoping KK's shoulder issue gets better as we will need both for the last two games and a bowl game.

By next year I think they would be ready to step in if they had to, but I really think Zeb will play 100% of the time next season as long as he doesn’t get injured.

All the time in the world? That’s hyperbole. When has running in short yardage been a good outcome this year?

The right thing to do was pass on the first three downs. Although it was a TD due to it being a great play by Murdock, and without his effort it’s an incompletion based on how the OU Lite had their dbs playing, there are easier ways to get a TD completion. If we got the calls Ok Lite got, we could have gone to Lazard every time.

Re-al will be here in January, go through winter workouts, spring ball, and summer workouts before entering fall camp.

He won't be ready? That's an unknown. There have been freshman QBs starting occasionally in P5 football. Since Devon Moore is recovering from an ACL injury and will be in recovery during spring ball, barring a transfer, it's likely to be Zeb and Re-al 1-2 entering fall ball. (I'm guessing Park is gone.)

We'll see. . . .

I don't think this staff will be comfortable going into the season with Zeb, Moore, and Mitchell. Heck, they brought in Kempt and Park a year ago.

That's presuming they can find an available transfer to provide value to the QB room. Hope they can find one.

You need four. If Jacob is gone, then they'll add one more to round it out.

We might be down to Noland and Lanning at QB the rest of the season.

Joel might still start another game at QB at this rate. :)

Who the heck would be next? David Montgomery?

I was impressed with Noland considering it was first significant playing time in such a big game. Quite a few good moments, the 2-minute drill before halftime was outstanding and one of my favorite segments of the game.

ISU has developed a solid a plug-and-play approach, helps explain being able to use 3 QBs during the season and not have a noticeable drop-off. It doesn't hinge as much on specific traits of individual players, and that wasn't always the case with QBs in Rhoads era.

I like Zeb, and would have no problem with him finishing the season. Kempt has done a lot of nice things, but teams are really creeping up to the LOS and taking away the horizontal passing game and the running game because of his lack of arm strength. Staff has done a great job of designing things that he can throw, but the offense is pretty limited if the other team can crowd the LOS.

While you need to maximize the opportunity this season presents with two winnable games to go 8-4 and into a nice bowl game, we still have to remember this is a young team and we are going to have to "start over" probably next year at QB. Lanning and Kempt are going to be gone, and we really do not know what is up with Jacob Park being part of the program.

In a situation where a young guy and a senior seem to be at similar levels, then I would think you default to youth and build for the future. Those reps are going to be really valuable to Noland (against beatable competition) if he is the Day 1 starter next season. I would really hope next year is the year we "pop" (even more than this year) with the full weight of Campbell's recruiting kicking in, even if we are losing some pieces with a ton of experience from the Rhoads era.

Tiller? Your judgement is as bad as the refs.

There are two first-game comparisons, Kempt and Sam. Kempt played very well, but clearly lacked the arm strength and because of that most knew it wasn’t sustainable. Sam was a good talent that was ruined by the previous staff.

Get any of our QBs an Oline for DM to run behind, and they’ll be good.

Not my judgement, it's an observation based on years of visiting this board. I'm not chiming in to say that Zeb didn't play good, I think he did. I just find it funny how this type of thread pops up, then half a season more and that QB is the reason for all of our woes and the backup should play. Wash, rinse repeat.

This isn't a judgement on any QB, it's about some fans.
