It should be pre-1985 and post-1985, when the field was expanded to 64. Prior to 1975, they only allowed one team per conference to go to the tourney and with byes, it only took one win for some teams to advance to the Elite Eight.Seems like that should be updated to the last 30 or 40 years. Not sure how relevant the 60's, 70's or even early 80's is to program quality today
But still, that graphic shows the tiers pretty clearly. 20+ Elite Eights are the bluebloods Kansas, Carolina, Kentucky, Duke and UCLA. 10-19 are the Tier A of the rest of the teams. 5-10 are Tier B. 1-4 are Tier C and then there is everyone else.
