What year were you guys at Algona? I remember Thorn wrestling but can't remember what years.

Graduated in 1980 from Algona. State Champs. Thorn was runner up to Greg Randal.
I graduated from Clarion in 1980 but I was at the opposite end of the weights than Thorn. I think I wrestled Bubba Bird as a junior at 185 and then I can't remember the name of your heavyweight our senior year. Dole was super heavyweight if I remember correctly.
I was a year behind you guys at Humboldt. I coach wrestling now at Iowa State
I wrestled Gronbach as a junior and Reimers as a senior. Those guys were tough hombres.

Assuming John Thorn was father to all the Thorns that recently wrestled at Minnesota? We could have used a few of them in Ames
Yes. John has a business in a suburb NW of Minneapolis and the boys spent multiple hours in the Gopher room.
Also when Mike Thorn was getting recruited, Iowa State was filled at the weight. So we were looked at.
The internet told me 4th at 118 as unseeded (seeds were only up to 8? back then). AND he beat a Hawk on the front side and also finished a place higher than said Hawk on the back side. As a team we finished 3rd behind Iowa and okie State (typical early 80s result).

San Louis Opispo (I’m guessing and my spelling is terrible; and too lazy to look up)
San Luis Obispo. Now it's just "Cal Poly."
Listed that way back then to differentiate from Cal Poly-Pomona and Cal Poly-Humboldt.
I can see it now. Hypothetical 2022/2023 Iowa State lineup:
125- Spencer Lee (he got mad at how his best friend Wyatt Henson was treated and decided to transfer with him to Iowa State)
133- RBY (he wants to wrestle with his best friend David Carr)
141- Swiderski
149- Yianni (He's had enough of the Ivy league life, and KD promised him we could wear our cardinal singlets every dual to make him feel at home)
157- Carr
165- Griffith (transfers in for one year to let Gaitan and Rojas redshirt)
174- Mekhi Lewis (family is close with KD and wants to end his college career wrestling for him)
184- Coleman
197- Bastida
Hwt- Gable (All the cool kids are transferring to Iowa State, so why not?)
