Sarna acknowledged that he had voided two speeding tickets for Jones. However, that number was later proved to be at least six. He also admitted to accepting free sports tickets from Jones and dropped the names of three other officers — including Monroe — who had also received basketball tournament tickets ...

Through KU employees, officers attended university basketball games and tournaments in Lawrence, the Sprint Center in Kansas City and arenas in Omaha, New Orleans, San Antonio and Oklahoma City ...

What he's going to say is that these are isolated incidents of certain rogue boosters that don't represent the university as a whole. The system worked and they were brought to justice by the upstanding members of the university and police department. Every university has some questionable boosters. Then he'll mention some car dealerships that gave out free rides to athletes at other universities and mention that Bill Self would know nothing of any of these activities.

Eh, OK. Is this more than just additional details about the ticket scandal from 5+ years ago?

These weren't boosters. These were employees of the ticket department who, far from representing the school, were ripping off the school to the tune of millions of dollars.

And some wonder why it takes the Lawrence PD months to charge a KU player on charges that should take days.
They were fixing tickets for those ticket department employees, not for athletes. KU as a school and a basketball program werent benefitting from this, they were getting ripped off by these criminals.

I think you are confused with who was on the take.

Eh, no. Here, his link will get you up to speed.

Employees of the ticket office were stealing tickets and either selling them for financial gains or trading them for favors. All that went to benefit THEMSELVES personally, not KU. Investigator estimate they made between $3- $5 million in 5+ years.

Couple corrections: they weren't free rides, athletes were just test driving the cars until they could decide (which was usally one day after the NBA draft). Bill would make sure that all athletes were punished if they did something like this, usually have to take their shower last and the hot water would run out quicker (harsh punishment, kinda like mike leach locking kids in closets). Few others that I'm not sure of now.

The article was published April 2, 2017. It seems to be news in Lawrence, Kansas. Is the former police chief still working for Ku?

The day after the department held a goodbye reception for Olin, KU Athletics reported that on Sept. 1 the former police chief would start working for the university in a brand new, security-related position.

The article, pointedly, says quite the opposite, it seems ... not one but tickets with an 's' were voided for a basketball coach.

The officer admitted to voiding tickets for a basketball coach and her neighbor who worked in the athletic department's ticket office.
