How’s the O-Line looking next year? Best ever for the 20th year in a row?
It’ll be our second year with Clanton and second year with the new strength coach. The coaches are aware the OL is the weakest spot on the team which is why they’re targeting some OL in the portal. Black was the only bright spot on the OL this year and he was a true freshman. So, to answer your asinine question (kind of standard with you though, everything you say on here is asinine), once Clanton is able to get *his* guys in the program, the OL *should* be much improved. I personally still think we’re one more year away from the OL being good

Campbells on his 3rd strength coach, all of his own firing.
I’m tired of seeing that being used as an excuse when the HC himself keeps making the change.

You’re right, we should just stick with something when it’s not working instead of looking to make changes and improvements

Or get the hire right the first 2 times.
Think many p5 programs are on 3 s&c coaches in 9 years?
Shame on Campbell for bringing his SC with him from Toledo who he trusted and saw results with and when he wasn’t working out? How dare Campbell bring in one of the most respected SC’s in all of college football.

it’s really too bad we didn’t just stick with the first SC who was a loon, all so the ISU fans don’t have to suffer from a bruised ego due going through multiple SCs

You know what would be cool? ACTUALLY making improvements.
Improvements like mean like making a bowl game 6 of 8 years? - the only two years he didn’t make it were his first year and the year we had to replace a ton of seasoned vets.

Or improvements like winning the only NY6 bowl game in school history?

Or do you mean improvements like finishing with a winning record in 6 of Campbell’s first 8 years? - something that’s next been done before in school history.

Or were you referring to improvements like playing in the big 12 championship game?

Or was the first first-round draft pick ISU has had in 50? years the type of improvement you were talking about?

Or how about the multiple draft picks ISU continues to put out year after year, that kind of improvement?

Or were you wanting to see a team who lost 5 starters and rostered a team full of freshman predicted to finish 10th in the big 12 and instead went on to finish tied for 4th in the conference after losing 2 out of 3 games to start the year and went on to finish the regular season 7-5, winning 6 conference games and will return 20 starters next year.

Which kind of improvement were you wanting to see?

Can't recall a memory in my life (over half a century) where so many former Cyclones were participating in NFL games, with one surpassing passing records for a franchise with some of the best to ever play the position on the list.

But even Purdy & Breece aside, having another RB starter, a couple WRs, a DB, KR, TE, DE/OLB all getting snaps (& also Eni) was not something seen for any predecessor of Campbell. Some position groups are missing, most glaringly OL, but with the right recruits & better coaching & development, I expect it to pick up here, too. Just hope it happens sooner rather than later. It'd also be nice to see more on the D side of the ball, too.

Mostly agree.

2017 was great. But many of the issues that prevented that season from being 9+ wins have continued. In 2017 it was easy to assign that to it being a roster still primarily recruited and developed by a different staff.

Some of it is coaching details and scheme. Some of it is poor development at too many positions.

The alarming thing is if Heacock’s defense has a lull, we have to depend on the offensive staff to utilize talent to an equal degree

The last seven seasons have been okay, but also a big missed opportunity

oh im here for the 9 months of sunshine pumpin. i consume all the podcasts because im a hog

I disagree that it is sunshine pumping. Sunshine pumping is a stupid phrase that stupid Iowa State fans use much more often than they should. However, saying Iowa State could be in the hunt for a conference title is realistic. Hell, we were in the hunt for a title this year in late October/early November.

But even if you think it is sunshine pumping, what the hell does it hurt? Isn't it more enjoyable to have hope for next season? Isn't it more fun to think that the team will be good than to think they will suck? Being miserable preseason doesn't make those people any less miserable if things go poorly in the actual season.

Collectively, you mean.

And that changes nothing.

And that changes everything. You can't just ignore our history. And you can't know if this staff has missed all the opportunities to be better or if they have over achieved. None of us know. The truth is likely a mix of both. As it is with almost all teams.
