Williams eventually died on Sept. 12 at the age of 36, and the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner Department said he succumbed to "Bacterial Sepsis with Cerebral Abscesses and Necrotizing Lobar Pneumonia due to multiple Dental Caries and retained tooth roots."

Essentially, his brain had pus growing around it after he had severe dental problems to the point where infections spread. Initial tests showed he had brain swelling and infections.

Wonder if he had root canals. Not a fan of root canals. Not because of pain, but because infected matter remains.

Have a friend that got a root canal from a military facility that ended up getting infected leading to heart issues and a stroke in a healthy guy about that same age. Lost the ability to speak for several months but thankfully is mostly recovered now.

Wonder if he went to the dentist and if he was warned of dangers that could happen if he doesn't take care of his teeth.

I knew someone who lost a family member that way. Wasn’t that they didn’t brush their teeth, just an infection like any other part of your body that didn’t get medical attention in time, just thought it was a normal toothache.

2. Brush w/ convetional brush
3. Brush/massage gums w/ electric brush
4. Thoroughly rinse tongue in shower
Bonus tip: Dollar Tree sells electric toothbrush, battery incl., works great. I buy 1/month.

About 10 years ago, I had a tooth crack on me. My dentist worked on it, but said I needed a root canal. He referred me out to a specialist. I was super nervous, because I had only heard horror stories about the procedure. When I went in for it, I asked the specialist and he was like "Oh, it gets a bad rap. We numb you up pretty good, so it's not that bad.".
And to his credit, it wasn't. I hardly felt anything, to the point where I actually fell asleep, about 15 minutes in. He woke me up when he was done and said "I know I said root canals weren't that bad, but I've never had someone fall asleep on me before."

I thanked him profusely and went about my way.

Fast forward 5 years, and I had an old filling that fell out and my dentist again sent me to the same specialist for a root canal. I walked into the appointment without a care in the world. He didn't seem to recognize me, which was understandable because I'd only met him once, 5 years prior.

The doc set to work, and what followed were two of the most unpleasant, painful, brutal hours of my life. They could not inject me with enough novacaine to dull the pain. It was awful.
When I was finally done, my jaw was swollen, my lips hurt from being stretched, and my entire face looked like I'd taken it through a warzone. And the doctor, whom I didn't think had remembered me, kind of sarcastically said "Didn't fall asleep that time, did you?"

I had a root canal earlier this year. Not going to lie, I was worried and it ended up being a cake walk. In and out with little to no pain. I had pain from sinus pressure which lead me to getting one, worth it for me. Dentist can be a godsend and a nightmare.

I wonder how many CFers are going to use this article to scare the **** out of their kids that don't want to brush their teeth.

"I felt your toothbrush Noah. It was dry! I know you didn't brush your teeth! Do you think you're tougher than an NFL player?!?"
I actually did. Our adopted son came from a difficult background where things like dental hygiene weren't given any priority. He is a later teen now, has gum issues, and it is a battle to get him to take dental hygiene seriously, despite us, the dentist, and the orthodontist trying to persuade him otherwise.

I had a root canal earlier this year as well...tooth had hairline crack. The root canal part was breeze, but the dentist who fitted up the permanent crown a couple of days later was rather rough.
