NASCAR's flagship event is today. Judging by what I have seen in the Clash and the Duels I am expecting long boring periods of single file racing with everyone on the high line. This aero package doesn't let the lower line make any sort of progress so the only action we'll see is on restarts with everyone eventually falling into line to just drive around lap after lap waiting for someone to screw up.
About 15 years ago NASCAR decided to fix something that didn't need fixing and every year has just compounded the problem.

In qualifying the Hendrick cars were far better than the others but once you get into the draft it's completely different.

I think about 15 years ago the "boogity, boogity, boogity...." thing was instigated too. That didn't help their brand at all.

The France family made some changes during the off season to make racing and passing more of the game this year.....too many empty seats and poor tv ratings.

I fell away from NASCAR years ago. I too tried watching the Clash and it was just painful. Just no action. Add to that, that I simply don't know the drivers anymore I'm not sure I'll be able to get back into it or not. I'll try to give the 500 a fair shake.

I think the fords will be strong! Harvick will win it!
They were strong last year and it seems all the Ford teams worked together. What was surprising last season was Hendrick never seemed to be able to figure out how to get a consistent car all season.

Did I hear this correct on the pre-race show: Jimmy Johnson didn't win a race last year?
I know I've been sleeping on this stuff but that just can't be. I had to of misheard that, right?

You heard correctly

I have very little expectations for today’s race. This aero package sucks. Hoping Newman can somehow pull something out but I highly doubt it

Johnson really fell off a cliff last year. I think he’s past his prime comfortably now.

Yep duels, trucks and yesterday were all single file until the last 2 laps each stage. At least trucks had accidents that wiped big parts of the field out.

Interesting how contrary to what we saw all week, the inside lane has been doing better.

Fox coverage of daytona......woof. Their strategic communications marketers haven't heard of over-selling or subject fatigue apparently.
He said "Boogity boogity" again....

Hell of a crash on lap 191(?). Everybody giving interviews after, pretty darn amazing the safety factors they have built into them.

Yeah, that was something else. Just collected so much of the field.

I haven’t watched NASCAR in a while, but I haven’t hated today’s 500.
It was shaping up to a pretty good race until that debris caution with about 30 laps to go.
