Downey has wrestled up for the past two years. I think he's earned the right to compete at his 'fighting weight'. I'm not a scholar on the NCAA tourney point system, but I think a champion earns a lot of points for his team.

PD2- I'm no hater, I hope you're right. Just think his path is much easier at 97 than 84.

I know you're not; but 197 is not going to be a Hodge-eligible weight. You are going to see the real PD3 this year, and he will be a hammer at 84.

It's not often you see a weight class with nine returning AA including 2 national champs and two other returning finalists. As a wrestling fan, the only thing that might make it better would be to see Cox move down since he did it for the Olympics.
86 kg is NOT 184....those last 5 lbs can be a killer.

I had it in my head that it was closer to 187, but not quite the case. Either way, there are additional reasons it's not nearly as easy in the college season. Still, a guy can dream!

Olympic weigh ins are also a lot easier. Making a weight the day before a couple of times in a year is a lot less stress on the body than making a weight with hour before weigh ins multiple times a week, or in some cases multiple days in a row.

And no hydration tests, etc.

I know you are a Hawk fans but your lack of wrestling knowledge is amazing. If PD3 doesn't get hurt, I would say he is a lock for a top 6 spot and agree he has a good chance to win. To do what he did last season with limit mat time and not being healthy the whole year made a believer from me. It also helps to know he is one of the hardest workers and leaders in the room. I can't wait to see what he can do when healthy and is able to wrestle the whole season.

My lack of wrestling knowledge? You can't be serious. Have you seen who is at that weight?

Do you actually think that PD2 can beat Dean? He has been owned by Pfarr who was like the 15th best guy at 184. My point is not that Pat is not a great wrestler, he is, just that 184 is an extremely deep weight.

Vegas in December, "crablegs"...you'll eat these words. He gave up 13 lbs and wrestled Pfarr with a broken rib and only a few matches under his belt. He is going to dominate this weight...Hodge baby...Hodge.

Boyd beat Dean last year and Downey is every bit as good as Boyd (better IMO) so it can happen. Let the wrestlers have at it and we'll see how it goes down.

Vegas will be a chance to prove me wrong. I think he'll be 4th or lower there.

At 197 I think Pat is top 4. At 184 I think he is a lower AA at best. I'd predict 6th-8th. There is no evidence to suggest he can beat Dean, Nickal, Martin. He is a toss up with the guys ranked 4-11, plus Valencia is hiding back there.

You really are clueless. He'll make both Nickal and Martin drop back to 74. Way, way too much horsepower.

Have you ever heard of Quentin Wright? Just in case you haven't, he was 2x NCAA Champ for PSU....that stands for Penn State University.

Last thing you will hear from me, crablegs. No, I don't think that I (PD2) can beat Dean...maybe 30 years ago; but I 'know' that PD3 can...and will!

Remember this photo when he's cracking heads this season. If everything else was equal (which it isn't), and strength alone was the ONLY determining factor, I would give you 10:1 odds vs Dean. When not wrestling with a freaking BROKEN RIB, this a bad Baltimore boy!!!
