There's no doubt it's more dangerous. But it will never be as severely punished as OWI because texting is viewed as a necessary part of daily life, and alcohol is a vice. And in America, we ratchet up punishments if a vice is involved.
It is really too bad that the texting device doesn't have a voice messaging function so that people can talk to other people without looking at or typing on a screen.

I should invent that - it could be worth millions!!!

If, as was suggested earlier in this thread, an athlete was betting under another person's account in the athletic training center, that would be illegal and could be why the DCI is involved. And it could be more than one athlete doing this to avoid detection.

A big fat ZERO. Project much do you? A dwi shouldn't be taken lightly but it shouldn't end someone's athletic career or job unless you were busted in a semi or are a law enforcement official.
How about an airline pilot?

At this point, the only sane and reasonable conclusion is that the DCI officers are huge Hawk fans that are dragging this out as close to football season as possible.

:jimlad:
Dude they know internally most of the facts and what the punishments will be. The public just doesn't know for sure.

"The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that driving while texting is six times more dangerous than driving drunk. Reading or sending a text takes your eyes off the road for about five seconds."

And I see a metric ton of people with their phones in front of their faces, or their faces looking down at their laps, every single day. Texting, watching videos, whatever. WAY more than drunks on a daily basis.

I am not suggesting drunk driving is OK - it's not at all. But the distracted driving thing has got to be stopped. I saw a guy in traffic about a month ago, watching porn on his phone on his morning commute. Phone held way up, eye-high above the steering wheel.

Sorry to contribute to thread derailment...
As soon as we get those self driving cars a nationwide thing we are gonna be car loads of drunken texters.

Just checking this thread to see if it stayed on topic. 40 pages and you all are still talking about Gambling. Sure we are now talking about drunk gambling and sexting, but still pretty impressive everyone has stayed on topic. Good work folks.

Let's get this thing back on track...

All five players previously named have not been present at the summer workouts. They have likely been "kicked off" the team. They have not returned since May when they have their meetings to close out spring ball.

This mostly hurts the one underclassman, in my opinion, as the other four do not have eligibility remaining.

You had to at least believe that to an extent.. being they haven't been featured in any of the social media posts and you would think that they would be being they're some of the top talent returning.

Who knows-- could be just the strategy of the media team, too.

I'm a little surprised this hasn't leaked publicly more outside of local journalists.

Again, in my opinion, I believe this is a case of getting out in front of it from a PR perspective.

"You can't triple stamp a double stamp!!" -- Dumb and Dumber

"You can't suspend him because he's not on the team" type thing.

This is America. People sue people over everything, even in a situation like this...
If you're on here stating these things then folks out there closer to the situation would be tweeting about it, no?

From a PR perspective this doesn't do much. It'll still be headlines if true. All it can help with is greasing the wheels from a compliance perspective. Doing the right thing as soon as it's clear what that is.
