Jon Miller of HN just picked the Squacks to go 12-0 and play the 12-1 Sooners in the national championship game. I laughed for a couple minutes. Your thoughts?

Did you expect anything less from him? Listening to him whine and cry the other day about possibly being put in the same division as Ohio State was hilarious.

I have a friend who is convinced it will be Iowa vs Nebraska in the national title game.
That's some funny stuff.
The only credence I'll give it is based on the fact that both have pretty favorable schedules. But Im definitely not sold on Nebraska.

This can't be THE Jon Miller. That J.M. was telling hawk fans in June to not have national title expectations - what happened?

Iowa will go 10-2 and tie for the big10 championship. Their defense is good, and defense wins games.

I agree with brainhos. I don't like the Hawks but try to be an objective sports fan when looking at teams. It wouldn't surpise me if they were undefeated, though, as their schedule would lend itself to that possibility as almost everything goes through Kinnick, and they are tough at home. I hope they don't go undefeated but they are a good football team (as much as I HATE to admit that).

I think you should have put this in Instate Rivals. Who cares what JMiller thinks--and why would you expect him to think anything different?

The Hawks wont go undefeated, that's just crazy talk. I agree with some of the other posters here, they'll lose 2 to 3 games. Actually, I predict 3 losses for the year, one being @ Arizona, Michigan State and Ohio St..

Check back to this post in December. :p

If ever there was a year Iowa could go undefeated, it's this one. Their defense is stacked and their special teams are solid. That's what you need to contend.

That said, I don't think they'll actually do it. I look for them to finish 9-3 or 10-2, which is still a great season. Now, if they had Bulaga and Speivey back, I wouldn't hesitate to put them in the NC game.

Either way, Ferentz seems to have that program in great shape right now.

What would be funny is if Iowa (full of seniors) go 7-5 in 2010
Nebraska goes 8-4 in 2010

They both lose a lot and then they are both are at 5 or 6 win teams when the meet for the first time in conference play at the end of the season. (that = nobody cares. )

Then that year ISU is 9-3.
I would think that would be our best case scenerio for shutting NU, UI and both Des Moines Radio stations up for awhile.. How cool would that be? Even if ISU is not that good 2 years from now if both NU and UI are bad that would be so funny.

Then mix that in with ISU on a serious talent rush in baskeball....you get the picture

Probably not going to happen, but man a guy can wish.

And for the NU and UI fans on this board....

The reason for this.
I was already asked at work how many medical staff was available for the NU vs ISU weekend in Ames.
The 1 UI guy in my dept. is thinking National Title.

This is in a facility of 900 people in ames. And I can only count 10 Hawkeye fans and 3 Nebraska fans of 900. If that doesn't say I am a DB than I don't know what does.

all said and done.....They had 6 games minimum where they probably should have lost. they happen to win everyone of them.
We will see if that luck continues.

9/05/09 #22 v. Northern Iowa .................. W 17-16 1-0 (0-0)
9/12/09 NR @ Iowa State ........................ W 35-3 2-0 (0-0)
9/19/09 NR v. Arizona ............................. W 27-17 3-0 (0-0)
9/26/09 NR @ Penn State ........................ W 21-10 4-0 (1-0)
10/03/09 #13 v. Arkansas State ............... W 24-21 5-0 (1-0)
10/10/09 #12 v. Michigan ........................ W 30-28 6-0 (2-0)
10/17/09 #11 @ Wisconsin ....................... W 20-10 7-0 (3-0)
10/24/09 #7(#6) @ Michigan State ........... W 15-13 8-0 (4-0)
10/31/09 #7(#4) v. Indiana ..................... W 42-24 9-0 (5-0)
11/07/09 #8(#4)v. Northwestern .............. L 10-17 9-1 (5-1)
11/14/09 #15 (#10) @ Ohio State ............ L 24-27 9-2 (5-2)
11/21/09 #15 (#13) v. Minnesota ............. W 12-0 10-2 (6-2)
1/5/2010 #10 (#10) @ Georgia Tech ......... W 24-14 11-2 (6-2)

If I didn't have to deal with the UI fans that I know then I would proably go for them. But since I do then Sorry Hawks.
I guess I need better friends.

Going undefeated is so close to impossible. Just having the year that Iowa had last year is extremely difficult. I don't think that this year's team really has that streak in it.

I would think 9-3 is about right, yet extremely disappointing to their fans.
