So my brother (Iowa alum) and I were talking college hoops. He asked how many I thought would make the tournament from the B12. I then said I believed 7 had a good shot. He said no way and suggested "a lot of them" will end up in the NIT. He doesn't think they would take 7 from the same conference. But he was also suggesting the B10 is the best basketball conference still at the moment. So I told him to pick the 7 most likely to make it for the B10. Whoever gets more in gets a free cake from the loser (He won't bet more..). Here is our lists:
Mine:
Baylor
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas

His:
Indiana
Iowa
Michigan
Michigan State
Minnesota
Ohio State
Purdue

He doesn't think Illinois will pull through.

Who wins the bet? Piece of cake betting with B10 fans..

70% of the Big 12 isn't going to make the tourney.

58% of the Big 10 could make the tourney.

He wins.

Big 10 gets 6. Big 12 gets 5.

Start baking... Not a very good bet on your part.

Sounds like you took a sucker bet. He only needs 58% of the B1G to make the tournament, and you need 70% of the Big 12.

I don't think Big 12 gets 7 teams in. Conference play will beat up on somebody and they won't have the record to get in. I think Big 12 could get 6, though, but 5 is a safer bet.

Teams have to be from the lists given, not the conference all around. That said, I think Kansas State is the team most likely to miss. I don't see more than 6 from his list going

I don't see Indiana or Purdue getting in unless they do really well in conference play. Illinois has more of a shot with a couple of quality wins, but I don't think they will withstand the conf. grind. So hard to tell because both conferences are going to have bubble teams beating each other up.

It's gunna be difficult for someone like K St. Texas, or even Oklahoma, to get in unless they really turn it on with wins over the top teams in the Conf.

They missed their chance to get big wins in the non con, and just beating the teams you're supposed in Conf play won't be enough.

I never take a bet against the Big Ten in basketball. Not because they're so great but because the media/voters are in love with them. Kind of like the SEC in football.

I really don't think Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas State will all make the tournament. Maybe 2 of them, but not all 3.

Except Texas won in Chapel Hill. That might be the big 12's best win to date. I cant recall who Okie has beaten thus far but their record is good.

OU's SOS so far is 123. According to RPI, their best win is over Mercer (#47). They also have wins over Bama and aTm, and an 11-point loss to Mich St.

Mercer and MSU are the only 2 top 100 RPI foes they've faced all year. 7 of their 11 wins are against teams in the 150+ RPI. Their 11-1 record is slightly misleading.

You should reach out to him and offer double or nothing on which conference has the last team standing.
