Maybe not. Have you been neglecting to perform preventative maintenance? You could just be suffering from shot button bearings or your laser fluid may need to be topped-off. If you're using a ball-mouse (trackball or old-school), the ball may need to be rebalanced.

Probably a good idea to check the frequency grease on the transmitter, assuming that it is a wireless mouse.
