Can a weather guru on here explain how the **** this happened with the mild temps we had today? Seems odd
Any time you're located with near and to the SE of a low pressure system and get cells to fire off ahead of a front there will be tornado risk. Leads to plenty of spin and usually enough energy.

60's is plenty warm to fire off storms, indeed peak of summer heat tends to "cap" the atmosphere and lower the risk of tornadoes as the trigger to break the cap is usually a cold front that creates linear storms that tend to have less spin to them.

Ankeny
Sitting in Ankeny right now, looking over at the Altoona area near the outlet mall and Adventureland. Just a barrage of lightning all over.

My favorite thing about tornado season is learning of all these dinky towns they show on local TV. Tonight I learned there is a place called Swan.
