Okay, but in Prohm's case there was recent evidence that someone could in fact do better. In Campbell's case, arguably no one has ever done better.
The bar is so low for ISU football it’s laughable. Ok, sure put CMC as the best ISU coach ever. Record at ISU is 47-43. Mediocre. Our best coach ever is solidly mediocre.

I'm genuinely curious and hopeful to see us stack up some seasons with an SOS more in the 30-60 range instead of the constant 1-20 range. We've had a lot of years where just being OK resulted in getting obliterated because the schedule didn't afford for being an OK team. If we had a 30-60ish SOS it might just be more fun because a team like last year is probably a 7 win team. None of us think we're competing for national titles and with conf champs getting playoff births you don't need to stack SOS for that anyway like you had to with a 2 team BCS champ game. I don't want to be in the MAC but it's not like Big 12 teams ever got some sort of credit for how tough the schedule is/was.

SOS past decade, Iowa in parenthesis as example of a good but much more manageable schedule:
2022: 9 (32)
2021: 8 (24)
2020: 17 (43)
2019: 5 (30)
2018: 18 (44)
2017: 19 (5)
2016: 32 (33)
2015: 3 (52)
2014: 15 (60)
2013: 23 (43)
Average: 14.9 (36.6)

It's been a grind. A still good but more manageable schedule might do wonders for a program like ISU in terms of load management.

I know the SOS is going to go down trading OU/Texas for the new 8, how far down is an unknown but my guess is our average SOS will end up in this 25-60 range Iowa is usually in which will be better for us.

I'm guessing the 14 teams in front of us the past decade are all other Big 12 and SEC schools. It's been a grind. A still good but more manageable schedule might do wonders for a program like ISU in terms of load management.

I get your point AND every other team in the conference has had legit success at some point and been in the top 25 conversation for multiple years so it’s not just an SOS issue.

On the bright side, the Grilled Ribeye with Cajun Cream Sauce was really good last night at Bubba. The vodka sodas helped too!

As easy as it is to get down after a loss to EIU, there are still a lot of positives from Campbell this season.

1. With all the turmoil the team went through with the gambling issue, we came through it halfway decently.
2. The QB play is better than it was last year, and this backup is also supposed to be very talented.
3. Our defense is very good, and we are forcing the action more and already have 3 turnovers after 2 weeks. We were horrible taking the ball away last season.
4. The special teams outside of the blocked field goal yesterday have been night and day different from the past couple of seasons, we are fielding punts, no shanked punts, and we can make a field goal now. That last one alone would have won the Kansas game last season.

We still need to open up the offense, way too many out patterns, again, I would love to see us fake that throw and hit the lead blocker wide open down the field. He was open every time. We need to throw the ball deep more, the offense line was doing a decent job pass blocking yesterday, which has been a problem with this team in the past.
