Interestingly, between the end of WW2 or modern college basketball and the time cheatin' Larry Brown came to Ku in '83, K-State had more conference (B8) championships than Ku 15-12. So, your point is probably valid.

And KU football was actually occasionally relevant back then - when KSU...ahem...wasn't. Then Bill Snyder and who the hell knows what happened in Lawrence.

An independent panel has been recommended by the NCAA Committee on Infractions to rule on the University of Kansas infractions case, according to a Tuesday report by Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel. The Jayhawks' would join NC State as the second from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York to be referred to the Independent Accountability Resolution Process (IARP), which the NCAA developed last year and is chaired by former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice.

Likely a big joke of "independence", just another group populated by academics from large universities with a smattering of old retired legal careerists. Gives NCAA administration separation so it don't look like they just let Kansas off. "Well, it went to an independent panel!" Hope I am wrong but I'm going to just assume another level of corruption and competence, independent or not.

They lost a solid coach in Glen Mason. Take out his first and last year, he went 42-37 with a top 10 team in '95 and two bowl wins in those 7 of 9 years in Lawrence. Mason also fit Ku's culture: cocksure of himself, articulate, handsome. But he couldn't wait to get out of Lawrence as Bill Snyder got it rolling in Manhattan. Mason went 1-8 versus Snyder.

Mark Mangino had a nice one year run with a record somewhat similar to Mason's. He finished with one conference winning season over his 8-year stay and a 23-41 B12 record. 2008 is the year he's remembered for finishing in the top 10 and beating V'Tech in the Orange Bowl. Mangino went 1-4 versus Snyder but benefited from three wins over Ron Prince.

I have long felt Mason was the better of the two. After Mangino was canned for being too difficult to deal with, everything went to hell with Charlie Weis, David Beaty, and now Les Miles. Miles may restore order and pave the way for a solid hire. Or Ku may just move to the Big East because dealing with Coach Klieman the next decade or so is going to be a chore..

This panel has way too much power.

The current coach will give it a good shot.

wonder how many times les miles has been told that money is in the basketball budget and not the football budget when he ask for money for a recruit.
Les you are not in the SEC anymore . It’s a basketball school.

Who beyond Condi Rice is on this panel?

Condi Rice recommended this type of oversight panel but does not serve as a member. Here's the current membership.

Indirectly related, SFA gets hammered ...

The Lumberjacks must also vacate Southland Conference Championships won under head coach Brad Underwood in 2015 and 2016, and the team’s 2018 win under Kyle Keller. The Lumberjacks’ 2016 NCAA Tournament win over West Virginia will also be vacated. Any banners that commemorate those victories will be removed, according to the release.

Grant Hill is the only guy affiliated with sports on this panel and that's probably good for Kansas. Hill was probably knee deep in the same things at Duke.

Grant Hill is one of the most admired individuals in America, athlete or otherwise. His father was a fine running back for the Dallas Cowboys. I believe Grant's part-owner of the Atlanta Hawks.

All that's true, but it doesn't mean Hill wasn't payed to star at Duke. I'd rather see some walk-on at a small school who could only wish he was in on the shoe money.

Mangino took full advantage of a weaker schedule to build his KU resume. Give him credit for breaking through when given the opportunity. Iowa State failed to do that on a couple occasions. Back in the twelve team Big 12, some of ISU's best years were built with the help of an easier schedule, particularly when we avoided Texas and Oklahoma.
