There are 300+ D1 programs and we finished solidly in the top 32, won a first round tournament game, our conference tournament, and ended KUs home winning streak. The regular season had some serious lows, but 90% of college basketball programs would have switched their seasons with ours in a heart beat.

A- or better.

Those grading B want to be on the top of the mountain, which I respect, but compared to our peers, ISU got a solid A.

I don't think saying there are 300 D1 programs and then calling them Iowa State's peers is really accurate. There are 75 schools in what are thought of as the six major basketball conferences. Add in the Gonzagas and Wichita States and let's call it an even 80. It's probably close to a quarter of those schools that don't give a s*** about basketball. So just roughly eyeballing it, Iowa State is in the top 32 among the 60 or so schools that could really be considered its peer, and that is being generous.

So if you think about it that way which is more accurate than saying a school like Jacksonville State is Iowa State's "peer," it is a pretty good but not great season - B range. Winning the title in Kansas City bumps it up a notch along with the win in Lawrence. B+ final answer.

B+, we knew that we would be missing Georges this season but they found a way to play well without him even if it meant a rough start to the season. They peaked at the point where they needed to and won another Big 12 Tournament. If we had gone to the Sweet 16, it would have been A-.
