Hopp may be a good one.

But, I think it is ironic in its proper sense that we raid Nebraska for VBers Nebbie doesn't consider their top priority. And, UN steals the best players Iowa has ever produced.

For instance, Iowa State was developing a relationship with, then offering, 15-year-old Kalynn Meyer of Superior NE. Meyer then up and committed to the Huskers for 2020. It's pretty hard to beat those Nebraska connections on their home turf or even in Iowa.

After following the IA State tournament last week, it is kind of distressing to see M.Kubik, D.Robinson and K.Sauer all heading out of state for college.

Sauer committed in 2015- Kubik summer 2016 about the time we got Mantz but Robinson more recently. We are talking Nebraska and Wisconsin on two of them so we are not going to win that recruiting battle. You never know what is going to happen. We have been close on a couple players, follow them for years everything is positive and then boom one camp as a 15 or 16 year old and they commit. I don't know if it is the buzz of having someone else new courting you or it is a grass is always greener type situation? When you crack the psyche of a 15-16yo girl publish the paper I an sure there is a Nobel prize in it for you:) Sometimes their parents are even left scratching their heads.

WATERLOO --- Waterloo Columbus senior Kate Shannon has been named North Iowa Cedar League East volleyball player of the year.

Shannon, a libero who has committed to Iowa State, is also one of nine players named to the NICL East all-conference first team.

Agree with you on the psyches of 15/16 year olds but the bigger question is what ISU needs to do to win at least some/more of the recruiting battles with Nebraska and Wisconsin, especially for top shelf in-state talent. I get that B10 conference affiliation is something that ISU can't do anything about but Creighton is down the road as a Top 10 program in the Big East with some top IA HS talent. And I think TOE will now become more of a factor with their new VB venue.

Does the lack of a small VB venue truly hurt ISU in recruiting circles? Does CJL need to explore staff changes to boost recruiting?

Injuries obviously have derailed this season to the point where winning the last 3 matches will likely not get ISU to the NCAAs and perhaps prevented what would have been a season where ISU pushed for a conference title. But looking ahead to next season, are there OHs on the roster or committed 2019 recruits that will be capable of adequately replacing Schaben?

We are usually 9-11th in attendance for volleyball matches roughly 2,400 per match- A volleyball specific venue might help but the product on the floor has to be good to influence that.

Losing Dawn Sullivan to UNLV was big and you don't replace a coach of 13+ years easily.

We are not replacing Schaben anytime soon IMO- Even the girls mentioned above as going out of state to NE and WI are not as good as JS was in HS. She did it from start of her FR year when she had 459 kills and hit .421. Jess was a step below Foeke of Nebraska and Mackenzie May of UCLA of a few years ago.

2019's
Kenna Sauer SR OH Ankeny Centenial Mizzou commit
Kenzie Mantz OH/MB Belle Plaine ISU
Megan Renner setter /OH Linn Mar Purdue
Ari Winters OH Ankeny Centenial Denver commit?
Emily Holterhaus Pella UNI commit

Players for 2020-2021
Alayna Yates JR 6' 5" OH/MB Cedar Falls Dayton commit
Magill SO OH Xavier 6' 5" committed to Creighton
Aliyah Carter Jr OH Wahlert committed to K-State 5' 9" jumps out of the gym
Sommer Daniel JR OH/setter Tipton committed to Utah 5' 7" jumps but undersized for OH
Sydney Dennis SO North Cedar Libero committed to Howks

There are a bunch of 2021 OH RS hitters that have the huge potential and I hope some stay in Iowa preferably for us:)

Apparently we have a commit from what I read is a top player in North Carolina Alexis Engelbrecht:

Hopp isn’t the first class of 2020 recruit for Iowa State that has been registered in the VolleyMob Recruiting Database either. She instead joins fellow middle blocker 6'2 MB Alexis Engelbrecht. The Cyclones also have two noted 2019 commits in defensive specialists/liberos Jaiden Centeno and Kate Shannon.

Addison Heidemann 5'9 2021 setter out of Odell NE. Ranking is low as one would expect for a HS under class person.
