Lancelot and a house campus avenue. ISU was one of the best experiences in my life!!!

Z

Lancelot is where I lived my freshman year!!

97-98 - Wallace 7th floor, Lancelot
98-99 - Welch 2nd floor, Cassell
Summer 99 - Buchanan 7th floor, Otopalik
99-02 (3 FREAKIN' YEARS) - RA of Wallace 6th floor, Hartman

I hated being an RA, but now that I'm only 3 years removed from paying off my student loans I'm really liking that I don't have an extra $15k to repay in room and board fees.

They had BWR challenge when I was there, my floor excelled at the mattress race. We took first with one of our teams and our second team was looking to get 2nd when one of our guys tripped and the little guy we had riding the mattress took a complete faceplant into the dirt.

I STILL have my BWR challenge bottle/beer opener on my key chain from 98!!

See I thought BWR was one of the best places to live cuz the rooms were HUGE. Granted I had a corner room that had 2 windows so air flow was not much of a problem but there were some rooms in BWR that were almost twice the size of most double rooms on campus. Do they still have the BWR Challenge these days? We used to dominate flag football and hold our own in basketball. Might have helped that we had 2 guys that played FB for Dowling and another guy that was 6-7 and was Nick Collison's backup in HS too plus some guys that were on the ISU track team.

I agree. My room on Dana was huuuuuuuuuuge. Dana also has that corner room by the stairs that is actually 2 rooms in one with it's own bathroom. It however sleeps 3. The cool thing is that the people living there made a huge 3 man loft in one room and put computers under it, then used the second room as a living room/gathering room.

I remember getting my housing and looking at my residence and wondering "what the hell is helser?" Little did I know it would provide for the best 2 years of my life so far.

Larch Hall, Cessna Hizzouse
House on South Franklin
Apartment on Welch
Basement on Story St.

Cessna rocked!

03/04 Larch Hanson (ok)
04/05 Larch Cessna (amazing! pretty much constant party)
05/06 Sterling Apts (out of control)
06/07 Sterling Apts (still pretty out of control)
07/08 103 South Hyland (house right at the corner of Lincoln Way and Hyland that used to be faded blue and appeared to be falling into the ground to the south, but it's currently being renovated and doesn't look nearly as terrible. We had some awesome parties in that house, but was, and still is in some respects, an unparalled **** hole).

TRA...the lovely Towers! Wilson Hall, Webber...9th floor. Spent 91-92 and 92-93 up there...cold as hell during the winters...but some incredible room parties. It was a never ending battle between our floor and 6th as to which floor was the rowdiest/most fined floor in Towers. 6th beat us but it was a fun competition!

Spent 2 more years up on Woodstock Ave in NW Ames and finished out my last semester with friends on Pinon Drive. We were a little far away from campus but also had a lesser presence of cops out there...parties never got interupted!

Fr/So/Jr 10th floor Knapp (Wilkinson House) 1976-79. I really got tired of the dorms by the 3rd year. Food sucked, elevators always broken and walking up 11 flights of stairs was no picnic. Last year and a quarter (79-80) lived at 2317 Knapp #2. At the time it was fairly new but hadn't had much maintenance done on it. Great floor plan with a big open living room and kitchen area and steps up to an open loft sleeping area. Last time I was in Ames I couldn't believe how BAAAD it looked. Doesn't look like any thing has been done to it for 30 years! Crappy apartments in major university towns within walking distance of campus are a license to print money.

No regrets, though - the guy who became my best friend lived on the floor and we are still best buds 30 years later. He took the video of the Knapp Storms implosion and send me a chunk of the concrete.

PS: I can still hear the warm spring night chants back and forth "Knapp Sucks, Storms Sucks, Knapp Sucks, Storms Sucks".
