a 5 hour drive took 8 hours because of a 2 hour detour since half the streets weren't plowed

actually, i have a 2008 honda civic, but left it at home

i drove a rav4 down here, but down 80 there was so many semis tipping over the bank that it closed down a major part of the highway

You're the one who apparently decided if was a good idea to drive after they've been saying for a couple days it'd be stupid to try and go anywhere. They aren't the issue for not having enough plows....

iowa in general, its 6-8 inches of snow, we arent talking about 2 feet here
But I'm sure Illinois has snow removal down to a science.

Dude, chill. It's been a crappy winter so far, the road crews are overworked and understaffed. It's going to be sucky, you just have to allow extra time for travel. Or stay home and wait it out if multiple sources say it's going to be bad.

You can get your keys at a later date...just have to call the CA in charge of the floor or the CA on duty on campus and I'm sure an apartment manager would be willing to make accomodations...
