Don't get me wrong....I'm not the world's biggest Beatles fan...but you HAVE to respect their contributions to the world of Rock music....

The Beatles were a rock and pop band from Liverpool, England that formed in 1960.

The sound of rock often revolves around the electric guitar or acoustic guitar, and it uses a strong back beat laid down by a rhythm section of electric bass guitar, drums, and keyboard instruments...In its "purest form", it "has three chords, a strong, insistent back beat, and a catchy melody

There is a definite distinction between "rock" and "hard rock."

The one song that is always a "must listen" and "turn up the volume" song for me is Enter Sandman. Metallica may have had very simple music, but it was sure great to listen to!

A close second may the Rolling Stones' "Hot for her".

I'm not sure that Staiway is even the greatest Zepplin song. It is probably the most well known and a song people would say if asked to say the first song that comes to mind when Led Zepplin is mentioned. I believe it to be "greatness" but not "genius". I would rather listen to "10 years gone" as opposed to "Stairway" every day for the rest of my life.

It's the same distinction between Fruit and Apple.

Well played. That sums it up very well. It's like country and bluegrass. Rock encompasses so much music that everyone will find a large portion of it they don't like. I'm sure I dislike a great deal more of it than I like. Certainly doesn't mean it isn't rock.

I love all the revisionist history. If the Beatles aren't rock, why did every parent over the age of 22 HATE them. They were THE revolution of the 60's. Just because rock got more aggressive and ultimately turned to crap after about 1986, with some nice exceptions, doesn't mean they didn't rock. Listen to Helter Skelter. And that was the "wimpy" McCartney.

A hearty +1 to that!

Disagree that the Beatles suck.

Agree that Zep is the greatest ever.

Disagree that Stairway is the best song.

(It's not even the best song on that album)

Let's all show some respect for "When the Levee Breaks"

Well...let's be honest, Zep probably holds #2-#10 for greatest songs of all time too.

Agreed. You have to take into account the time and place. Ever see linemen from old black and white reels? Most were the size of your average HB by today's standards. You can't argue that whey weren't linemen based on what linemen look like today.

I'm 45, which should make me a Beatles fan, and I agree. Out of the top 100 or so best rock songs, I wouldn't put a single Beatles song on it.

Lucas Davenport and I have more than one thing in common.

BTW, the Beatles don't suck, they just aren't a rock band, and what they play isn't really Rock music. Even among the British invasion bands, they are the least "Rock-like".

What they play is "pop", and shouldn't be confused with music that originates from the nether regions.

The Beatles are the greatest alternative band ever. They do not rock.

Spinal Tap rocks!

... Every time, you turned on the radio station there were 10 different Beatles songs playing. No sooner would one stop than another one would start. The Beatles, yeeeech!

Do you have Sirius/XM radio? They have stations devoted to different artists. All Zepplin, all AC/DC, all Elvis, etc.

Where is the All Beatles station? I don't hate them. They have a place in history.
