When is the proper time to start playing Christmas Music? I have seen Christmas stuff at Walmart for about 3 weeks, and have been hearing the music around for about a month now, and can't stand it. When is the right time to start playing Christmas Music?

Black Friday.

...although I might be the only one with that opinion.

Typically the day after Thanksgiving seems to be the day where most people get into Christmas mode. Trees go up, lights go on, and decorations come out in houses.

For me, I love Christmas, so all year long is ok. But wouldn't start playing Christmas music until the day after Thanksgiving.

I voted Dec 15 as a compromise. If I was ruler of the earth, it would only be allowed Dec 24-25.

Officially the day after Thanksgiving or later, but that doesn't mean you can't sneak it during the year.

Ha, that is funny, and I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I said it was ok to sneak Christmas music, not the Chipmunks.

If you think Walmarts bad, Hobby Lobby has their fake Christmas trees up in late August. I agree with you about Walmart though....hearing Christmas music well before Thanksgiving really makes me cringe. I can probably deal with it on Black Friday though since it's totally geared to Christmas.

I might be biased though...my two favorite days are Halloween and especially Thanksgiving as we've had tradition where just the guys hang out for that day. All the food, drinking, and football without the hassle of unwanted family members that you only see once a year.

I worked on retail long enough that my love for Christmas has been damaged beyond repair, but I still love Christmas music. I'd play it all year long if I could, but I think most cases say to start the day after Thanksgiving. That's usually when the 24 hour radio stations start up.

For me it isn't a problem of when the Christmas music starts. It's a matter of how long until I'm sick of hearing the same 4 or 5 songs, etc, played over & over & over & over.

How many times can one person listen to Bruce Springsteen's Santa Claus is Coming to Town before being overcome by the rage virus?

I refuse to allow open access to my iTunes Christmas tunes library in our office building until after Thanksgiving. IMO, Thanksgiving is rapidly becoming the unwanted cousin of Holidays. It gets lost between Halloween promotions in August and Christmas promotions in October. And I don't think that's a good thing. OK, rant over. Thanks for listening.

I refuse to do anything Christmas related until the day after Thanksgiving. Maaaaaybe the evening of Thanksgiving if I'm bored.

****** me off when I was driving to Florida over the weekend and came across a station already playing Christmas music 24-7... a few were advertising that they were starting up after Thanksgiving but one was alredy doing that.

It's complete crap and only further serves to commercialize and water down the holiday. I really hope we get a consumer backlash to this crap soon...
