I never snuck booze into Hilton, but I managed to always bring in a 3' dowel rod or a couple of 2' sections of poles... I'd have had no problem making that a flask or a 750 of Captain if I'd wanted to.

And I usually showed up to Hilton in shorts and a T-shirt

I really think the core of the problem is a disinterest in ISU basketball in general. I had five guys in front of me that came in wasted, cheered their ***** off for one half, then left at halftime because they wanted to go drink more instead of watch the game.

agree. the fix is going to require several components. 1) even more drinking and it should be universal for students. 2) less "commercials" disguised as games. 3) Better basketball. Anyone is likely not enough on its own. The wild card is the Hamm's beer song and it could be substituted in place of any one of the above save the drinking.

Not only is drinking no longer prohibited in Cyclone Alley, it's mandatory! One drink every 4 minute time out, and a shot if we dunk the ball!!!

All of those would be nice, but I still think the most important fix to Hilton's atmosphere is moving students to some of the arena level seats. I don't give a damn anymore about the donors that sit there. Stand up and cheer you lazy old bastards.

But then, the students hardly stand and cheer anymore either, so I'm not sure it could be justified anyways.

I think some letters need to be sent to the daily about the good old days of Cyclone Basketball and true Hilton Magic. Call out the students for their lack of support at basketball games. Tell them to get LOUD. Do something to **** them off, because nothing else seems to be working.

that won't work. that will just create apathy. right now they have the illusion of being essential to the atmosphere. take that away and they will be bitter. plus, playing the "the way it used to be" card never works. nope, the key is more drinking and better hoops. the rest will follow.

Oh, and there was also a "fan" in the upper deck who kept throwing stuff at the only guy who actually stood for the whole game. You know who you are, overalls guy.

This happened to the group i was with tonight. We got there late because of classes so we were in the upper bowl. Four of us were standing up and some random guy decides to throw marinara sauce at us because were the only ones standing up. we kept standing after it was thrown. D-bags like this shouldn't even be allowed in Hilton.

I always had night classes that would get over right at tip off...so I would do a little pre-gaming in class. Worst class ever was the impromptu presentation I had to give at the end of class after a half a Coke bottle of Sailor Jerry....my my my

Maybe the new intro needs to be all about Hilton Magic. Remind all students and fans of what it was like back in the "glory days".

You're damn right price. Lots of Marcus Fizer clips. I got goosebumps tonight.

Just a quick FYI, I have made "possibilities for reseating Hilton" and "proposals to improve Cyclone Alley" two of my pet projects since last week's rants. Just give me some time to work on them, I've been busy this week.

Never underestimate the power of an irritated engineer with a full pot of coffee and some time at his/her disposal...

One thing that struck me watching on TV was the adults really don't get loud at all. When the other team calls timeout after a big play or mini run, the fans stand and cheer the whole time out, then sit on their hands when the game starts again.

Granted, it's hard to tell on TV sometimes, but it sounded very quiet compared to what I'd expect from an Iowa game or Big 12 game. I don't know if that starts with students, CA, bad basketball in recent years, or the donors sitting in the good seats.

You observed correctly. The real problem is the adults not Cyclone Alley.

are you kidding me? my God, college has changed.

No it hasn't. I do my best every week to replicate Animal House. I'd say we do a pretty good job. As for me I don't go to basketball games but if I did I would definitely be drunk.

I am not a fan of cyclone alley at all. This is my second year being a part of it and I can't wait to see it go back to the way it was. I remember coming to games when I was younger and not even being able to talk to someone next to me because it was so loud. Half the people in the lower section of CA are just there because they think it's cool to be at the game, they end up not cheering at all. At the UNI game this year me and a guy next to me were yelling at the refs for some blatantly obvious fouls that were not called and some chick turned around and told us to be quiet. I think instead of checking if you have the shirt they should breathalyze you and only let you in if you are above .08:laugh:

I am sick of cyclone alley central getting blamed for people not cheering, i have never once told someone to stop yelling

I am sick of hearing cyclone alley central doesn't cheer, i was one of the few people in the section yelling OOOOOOOOOOO on EVERY defensive possession along with the two kids next to me and the manager for the team

I am sick of you looking at one person on the committee and saying, "look the whole committee sucks"

If you have problems with CA i can see that and respect everyone's opinion but when you say we don't cheer but i lost my voice by halftime because i was cheering for my cyclones playing defense in front of me every possession you can see why i might be upset

Your sick of hearing that cyclone alley doesnt cheer? Well it doesn't.
Me and an elderly couple up in section 231 are cheering louder than you guys.
