I think Christopherson is a better fit when defenses are playing hard man to man defense, Staiger is killer against zone defenses, but not many of our opponents have played zone against us. If we are going to play Staiger over Christopherson when the oponnent is playing man to man, McDermott has to start running him off screens or something to get him involved in the offense, he can't get open on his own.

I posted after the Iowa game that maybe it was time for our German import to come off the bench. Never checked the responses, and because I didn't see the game today, I can't fairly judge how horrible he played today.
What i noticed in the previous games is Lucca does not hit the court for loose balls, does not go after boards and gets beat quite easily by quicker guards.
He may have size over Christopherson, but he doesn't have the same fire.

I'm sure you realize the last 5 games before today Scott averaged 22 minutes and averaged 4 points and 1 assist a game over those 5 games, right? It takes a brilliant basketball mind to notice something magical about that basket he was making every 11 minutes and brilliantly deduct he needs "more time!" You should probably hurry and go ahead and meet with John Wooden and write a book on coaching together.
His job isn't always to score. How often does Lucca get a clean look? Rarely. He frees up Gilstrap and Brackins because no one wants to leave him with an open look. That's HUGE.
I was thinking the same thing. At least Lucca wasn't trying to force up bad shots. That's the one problem I have with Boozer's game.
His only bad shot tonight was the 3 pointer he forced. His shot selection has gotten MUCH better as he's gotten older.
The pathetic mewlings to bench Lucca for Scott sounds like the same sad cries that the backup QB should start that is said out east.
I want Lucca to start, but I also want him to hustle, rebound, and get physical. He is not small. Is diving after a loose ball here and there really too much to ask?
Wah wah wah, that's all I hear from those complaining in this thread. My opinion is that McD is running the show; if there's ever a coaching vacancy for men's basketball in the future, then your resumes should be the first ones to reach Pollard's desk.
And to those insisting that players reading the board should just "toughen up" against some random poster on the internet: teams prepare for hostile environments. They are used to smack talk from opposing players. They grow used to their coaches' tirades.
If there's one thing that probably lures a lot of high caliber recruits to Iowa State, it is probably the fans. The chance to play in a prestigious athletic conference is probably another draw, but a lot of our more talented players could have chosen any other school on their list -- but they chose Iowa State. They could have chosen ISU because of the coaching staff, the majors that ISU had to offer, or maybe they had such a great time on their visit to a game at Hilton that they felt they had to have the opportunity to play for such a devoted fan base out in the middle of nowhere.
However, to receive such negative criticism, especially from the devoted fans that drew them to ISU in the first place, has got to smart. They get enough crap from their coaches, they don't need the impression that the 11-12,000 filling up Hilton so far this season are thinking the same thing.
You may think that this is "just" a message board, but with a post made almost every second of the day, it's much more than just a fringe minority of the Cyclone fan base. Sure, the vocal minority that must complain about something regularly require themselves to make their opinions heard here, but it still doesn't help quell the perception that this board represents the opinions of the entire fan base. Some people are just fans of the game and the school. They've never heard of CycloneFanatic. To them, a player performs poorly and they keep it to themselves or hope that he does better; not what would be the equivalent of bashing them here, which is to go down to the floor and start loudly complaining within earshot of said player.

I'm glad to have options. Don't want Staiger getting huge minutes anyway. If his role is to extend the D with his three point shooting then I'd like to see him able to sit for periods of the game. A lot of shooting comes from the legs and it would hurt his %s if he was having to play 30 plus minutes a game. Also, what are SC's and LS's %s behind the arc. Scott has a **** of a shot in his own right and can't imagine the two are too far apart. Between the two, I personally like Scott's game better, but Lucca's got experience on him so Lucca starting doesn't bother me too much as long as Scott's getting minutes.
Chris Colvin did not do a good job of handling the ball yesterday. He left it out there, got picked several times and struggled beating his man. If he doesn't improve his strength with the ball, we better hope DG can play 35 minutes a game when conference starts.
...oh, I'm sorry. I can't say that. Aside from the fact that it's true (which clearly doesn't matter to airwalke), I might hurt poor Chris' feelings.
I thought by now we would have several posts about how we can't finish and how we let a 32 point lead slip away to 18.
Actually, the OP DID NOT SAY HE SUCKS. Nowhere in the OP's thread did he/she say Lucca sucks. Everyone just twisted words.

Just an FYI, but the OP had a separate (now moderated) thread that started out with 'Lucca sucks'. Also this thread has been moderated to a certain point so the content of Angie's post may not make sense this morning but it was applicable last night.
Exactly. As are about half of the posts in this thread, my post was in reference to an earlier thread. Nobody twisted any words, since the quote was, "Lucca sucks."
Staiger did a nice job out there yesterday. You don't need to be scoring points to do a good job. They were defending him nicley so instead of forcing up a bunch of shots he took what the defense gave him and dished the ball off. He was 0-4 from the field but two of those misses were when the shot clock was about to expire and he had to take them. Everybody needs to get off of Lucca's back. The guy is a solid player!!! Great job yesterday Lucca! Go Cyclones!!!
Although I agree with the basic premise of not bashing players, and I opt not to, it happens in every fanbase. If players get offended by people criticizing something they do on the court, it's not going to do any good to quit and go to another program. Because, they are going to hear the same things or worse there. It's part of this "new" message board phase. It gives people a chance to make pot shots at people without having to reveal their identity.
You just hope that the kids have thick enough skin to get past the negatives. Some may even use it as a motivator to prove the chicken little fans wrong. Either way, if our players are worried about what a bunch of fat idiots are saying about them on an anonymous message board, we've got a lot more to worry about than wins and losses this year....
