Pollard has no obligation to make a comment until after the season is done, and at that point he really doesn't have to.
I agree, why would Jamie make a statement just because some internet message board posters are upset? The message boards are full of people who are: shut-ins, work slackers, rival school's fans, detractors, non-fans, chronically negative persons, etc. Why would he react to them? I'm sure he has discussed the basketball program with his boss, significant donors and supporters of ISU athletics, his wife and maybe a few close friends. He doesn't need to go public and make a statement to satisfy a bunch of message board posters.

Re: Is Pollard even gonna address this?

Isn't it his job to come out at some point and give a state of the athletics speech. I just wanna hear him talk. Even if he has a bs answer that he thinks Gmac can get it done. Something is better than this. Also, is he even attending BB games now?
His job is to have Monday morning staff meetings with his boss. That's it.

Since I'm sure you're kidding I won't single you out. But, people clamoring for the all powerful JP to step from behind the curtain and issue some statement to assuage all Cyclone nation's fears and insecurities it just plain silly.
Yep. I would however change "Cyclone nation's" to "a bunch of internet message board posters".

Geez a new guy will have to probably have defections, have to bring in a bunch of JC guys ---- oh wait ----

Based on the 5 or so guys we will have left anyway a new guy will be starting basically from scratch anyway.

I think the biggest mistake in all of this was the extension. I never understood why it was given in the first place and now, with the way the economy is, pretty much has us stuck in a hole.

I would think that if he feels he is the guy he wouldsay so.... Right now I think he is counting heads in the seats and will see how much cardinal and gold is in KC...

And then doing some mental math on the drive down....

15 home games x 15-20 bucks is 225-300 bucks x 5000 tickets short is about 135,000 a year. Till 2015 is a little over 500,000 damn still not there.....

Then maybe some thinking about what happens if we start over

Geez a new guy will have to probably have defections, have to bring in a bunch of JC guys ---- oh wait ----

Tickets arent where they only make money. They make money off of donation that's required to purchase lower level tix. Loss of $$$ is more than just what you said..... I think many Alumni gave up their seats because of lack of success.

He should be ashamed because he made a knee jerk reaction based on EIU's interest in GMAC.

One thing people are really going to have to learn how to do is to let go of the past, and evaluate the program in the present and looking toward the future. The comments about LE, Wayne, Floyd, etc add nothing to the current situation.

The firing of Morgan, and the hiring of McD are in the past, and there is no changing them. Let it go, and evaluate the situation as it now stands - not as it stood 4+ years ago.

The money is what will be the ultimate doom for Mac - as posted above if you lose $1MM to $1.5MM in ticket revenue (doesn't include consessions) that offsets what you end up paying (per year) to get rid of Mac - either way you are losing that money. So take your chances on keeping Mac and the team improves and maybe more tickets are purchased than you thought or let him go and keep the ticket sales because of hope coming in the form of a new coach. I like Mac but at this point it may be time to move on...

Out of curiosity- would it be illegal for JP to be looking for replacements behind the scenes? Say giving Tim Floyd or Gillespie a call, "Hey what's up? We may or may not be in the market for another head coach soon..." Rather than fire GMac first, see if he can't find a better replacement in advance. A splash hire might help tix sales offset the cost of a buyout in the short term.

Way up there
Re: Is Pollard even gonna address this?

If McD isn't gone after this year, JP should be. No question.

But then who will we blame when PR has a losing season? Did JP just get super lucky in his hiring or shoud he get some credit for bringing him in?

If JP is planning on letting Mac go then he better be making some contacts - you know JP has a short list as does every good AD. BG would be easier to negociate with since he is currently unemployed so no AD to work around, no season to finish etc...

Pollard doesn't have an obligation to say anything until after the season. GMac is the coach for now and he doesn't need to go on record to say anything right now.

For those of you wanting something, a week from today our season will likely be over and then you'll probably hear something after the conference tournament is over I'm guessing. It's not like saying something right now is going to change the fate of this season or even next year's so there is no point in a vote of confidence or any kind of comment at all about GMac's future.

I respectfully disaree...........

I would argue you disrespectuflly disagree...because you've done so in Verdana "3" rather than Verdana "2". That is a whole other level of disagreement.

Still crickets from the AD

What does it all mean Bassel?

My thoughts:

Greg is gone. At this point, if Pollard had any intention of keeping Greg, he would have had to make some public statement supporting Greg to give him some backing going into next season.

This sucks. I wish Greg would have figured it out. We had the makings of a dream scenario with two Iowans running FB and MBB.

Ultimately, wins are what matters though. Personally, I am all for the Billy G prospect. Let him come in, build the program back to a winner, then move to bigger pastures. We can bring on a more stable coach at that point. I personally don't mind if our new coach isn't a baby kisser, I would rather have a winner.

I think Greg leaving is not only best for ISU, but best for Greg. He still has decent enough cred to get a job somewhere between the low to mid major level and rebuild his rep, DII at the very worst. Maybe the he can give the high major a try again using what he learned in Ames to be more successful.

Exactly my thoughts. If JP was so sure that Mac was coming back next year he would come out and say, just like Nebraska did last week.

I don't need the new coach to be squeky clean and I would actually prefer them to toe the line a tad more....but I don't want a new coach to have 4 DUI's. Can't hire Billy G. Wouldn't go over well at all

This. It doesn't matter if you are the nicest guy in the world if you don't win. In sports.... winning isn't everything... IT'S THE ONLY THING!!!!!
