Heads in the sky
PR will have a losing season in 2010.

you know this how...?

he does not have the charisma to get the WI job. sorry.

arent u a pocket of sunshine?

Coach Mac is a J.P. hire. If J.P. is not going to stand up for his man, why should anyone else. J.P. is the most "disloyal" cut throat A.D. I can recall. When he sets the example of hanging folks out to dry, it is "illogical" to expect loyalty to J.P. Less Kool-aid; more big picture analysis is in order. Coach is responsible for his team, J.P. is responsible for the coach, and Prez is responsible for J.P.---pretty simple.

JP: Why wait?

Jamie,

If you are going to come out and publicly support Greg, why wait until next week to do it? Why not schedule an impromptu press conference this afternoon and give Greg your full support to eliminate that distraction for the game against top 10 KSU in the OOD? Or at least put out a press release like kNU did. Something doesn't make sense. Do you still have something up your sleeve? Is something in the works still? Help me to understand your logic here.

Thanks

What is more of a distraction for the team - Some random people yapping on a message board or a statement from the AD?

How does it make sense? If you have made up your mind to keep the guy, why wait until the season is over. Wouldn't you want the recruits and the current players to know Greg is going to be around next season asap?

It's also about trying to reconnect with a divided fanbase that is now calling your (JP's) leadership into question because of a ridiculous contract you gave an unproven coach.

You have lost the casual fan, the ones that will go to the games if the team is winning, or fun to watch (neither of which applies to this team).

You have to hope that $99 tickets will be purchased so that people will come in and see the big name players from other teams.

I don't see how the ticket sales don't take a hit. I know that Pollard will skirt the issue, but seeing how people have stopped coming to games in droves, there will be a serious drop, 1-2 k, and that gets you down to 6-7 k season tickets sold.

Lynn Nance would be proud. It is a shame that Johnny lived long enough to see what the coach has done to a program that he built.

maybe Jamie's just busy and scheduled it at his earliest convenience. Why do people try to read into every little thing so much?

I'm not sure who is to blame for the poor performance and lack of hope for Cyclone basketball. I certainly think there is enough to go around. The Athletic Department, the coach, the players, the media, and the fans all share in responsibility somewhat. As I type this I am preserving a VHS copy that I have of the ISU/Kansas game at Hilton in 2001. It is amazing to watch and remember what a basketball game can be like in Hilton Colesium. Granted these were two top ten teams but I also just finished a copy of a November game with Coppin State that had the TV cameras bouncing.

As a fan I take blame for not supporting the team like I did from age 5 to 25. Growing up in SE Iowa I never saw a game in Hilton until I came to college. But I listened to every game on the radio and in the 90's we got to see them on TV from time to time. You could hear and see what the media called "Hilton Magic". They painted a great picture or described what we were seeing with such passion that you just couldn't help but fall in love.
When I happen to turn on a game now I hear dispassionate voices and guys that don't know ISU history besides what they read in a media guide.
...But that could be because it's not that exciting anymore in Hilton and there is no reason to describe excitement that isn't there. I've been to a couple games in the last few years and haven't been very impressed. I'm a life-long cyclone fan. I'm no fair-weather, you-guys-have-to-be-good-before-I'll-pay-to-watch fan. I'll scream like I remembered doing back-in-the-day but it's solo now and disheartnening to the point where I just sit down and blend into the crowd. I long for the way Hilton once was.
Hilton has changed. We now have a organized student section which, in concept, seems good. But from my experience it was the impromptu cheers than were started by the most zealous of fans that got Hilton to the point that you could swear you were experiencing an earthquake. No one ever really followed the cheerleaders - it was the random kid in the student section that started chants like "Sit down Roy!" It became tradition but not because Cyclone Alley decreed it to be such. People of different stripes just liked uniting, being a part of something random/crazy and most of all trying to distract to the opposing team. When I've been to a game in the last couple years the student section cheers like they are reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
I know coaches play a big role. Johnny brought a lot of this with him when he came to Ames. People were excited because they believed that a final four coach could turn things around. They came out to the games, went crazy and then gave credit to Johnny for creating Hilton Magic. But it was the fans that made teams and announcers think that Hilton was an impossible place to win in.
In my eyes the biggest failure of Coach Mac and Pollard is that they don't make the fans #1.

I can't take another year of Greg McDermott basketball. The guy doesn't deserve even a small fraction of what he makes. It an embarassment, but I suppose all I can do is vote with my feet and my wallet.

It's not that at all. Do people in the athletic department realize how divided this fanbase is over this coach?

I mean they have to see this. All of the empty seats in Hilton should be a pretty good indicator.

Now, he is going to give this coach another year. A lot of Cyclone fans aren't going to be happy. If he intends to sell this to the fans, then HE needs to be out in front of the story. It needs to be his story told. NOT that we are too broke to fire a lame duck coach.

Brackins brought attention to the program this year. There is nothing to do that next year. See how many ESPN games we get next year.

We are really close to being completely and totally irrelevant nationally. If we aren't already.

Add a half filled arena and that loss of revenue that we can't afford to lose. And that hurts other athletic department projects as well.

THAT is why Pollard needs to be out in front of this. If this was his decision, then he should have told Greg ASAP, and the fans right after.

If you read the Gillespie thread, what you saw was excitement that there might be some hope back in the program. There hasn't been that since the Texas Tech game.
