Sounds like today's society. Here is your 10th place trophy. Thanks for participating.

My thoughts are you are either in or out. You support the athletic department by donating to the NCC and prushasing tickets. If you do not, there are no first place loser trophies.

This.

Jamie was hired to fix problems. Instead, he's created them.

It's all about the $$ with JP. Nothing more.

If he spent 1/2 as much time on his coaching decisions as he did trying to fleece ISU fans, we might be in pretty good shape.

If this email exchange is legit, it wasn't a good move by JP from a PR standpoint. I have no problems with him thinking these things, but putting them in writing, which by the way included some typos (no big deal to some, but to others it is, especially when it comes from someone in JP's position), looks tacky. Almost like, "them's fightin words!" Unfortunately, this is the kind of stuff that media types love and will circulate until it finds its way to some bigger fish like ESPN, etc. Seriously, I've worked in PR for many years and can tell you stuff like this, if legit, makes the news.

Again, I have no problem with what JP was thinking here, but I think he should've left out a few areas like where he called the fan an embarrassment, etc. Just my opinion.

If it was my kid that sent the email to JP and then the response to Deace, I would kick him in the ***.

These talk show guys are the biggest drama queens out there. Oh my gosh Jamie said, WHAT? They are like a bunch of high school girls. Come on...talk about upcoming events like wrestling, bball, and spring football.

+1 - everything is blown up into something major when it is usually insignificant.

So how does JP's response, if indeed this was from him, accomplish that? Do you really think his response will encourage the guy to buy season tickets or make a donation, or encourage others to do so? Honestly? Or is he more likely to get ****** off, send a copy of the email exchange to radio talk show hosts (and who knows who else? to embarrass JP and ISU?

Simple questions....what good did JP's respone do? What does it accomplish that is good for ISU?

JP was right. The guy was a tool. That kind of fan doesn't help anything.

Wow, I hope that you decide to come join us in the 21st century sometime soon. It doesn't matter whether you are industry or sports...Money makes the wheels turn. The reason (imo) that Gmac is back is the fact that ISU can't afford to get rid of him right now. If anyone has a problem with that, stepup and pay the buyout...otherwise what do people expect JP to do. Put ISU in debt just to get rid of the coach?

In my opinion, I agree with whoever wrote the response to the original letter. You either need to put up or shut up. Sitting and complaining does nothing. Supporting the athletes, helping financially, cheering all effect the product on the court.

Its another catch-22...Why will players try to play hard if there isn't anyone in the stands? Yeah sure you can not go to games, but would you rather the announcers just sit there and make fun of Iowa State for having 10 fans in the stands? If you get off on that then stay home, if not then I ask you all to come out to the games next year and support the athletes who are playing hard as a CYCLONE.

You may not like the coach, the personnel decisions or the athletic director, but why do you have to punish the kids on the floor who want to play for Iowa State?

The Big 12 Tournament begins today...the hot topic on our site is some guy named Matt Rainey who may or may not be a Cyclone fan who reportedly lives in Urbandale.

Gotta love the Internet...

He is also a member of CF apparently. Funny he isn't standing up for himself a little here.

Well not everyone is on here 24 hours a day. If this thread goes by for a few days and still nothing, you have a point.

The guy could be the biggest tool in the history of the world and he still shouldn't have said it. He could think it, want to write it, but in the end send off a nice little email (if any at all) telling the guy that he believes he is making the right choice for ISU.

Exactly what I was thinking. As I said in my post earlier, his response, if legit, isn't good PR.

Why are we so selective when it comes to who we let into this Cyclone 'fandom'? Does it make us feel better to be part of a select group? Is it a consequence of being a minority in the state? We are in no position to be disingenuous to factions of the fan base or disingenuous based on financial support. While he may not have had a financial voice of measurable consequence, think of the number of people who will now hear his voice of disdain for the leadership of the program.

Best response possible by JP, I would have said the same thing. That being said no everyone can afford to buy tickets and donate...but if they are such a die hard fan you would think once they would have bought a ticket.

Has anybody else sent an e-mail out they regretted right after they hit the Send button? This is probably what happened with JP in this case. He spoke with his heart but probably should have given a canned response.

13 pages of response to an obviously fake letter that was posted by some bottom of the barrel radio hosts to create a topic for today's show other than actually talking about ISU bball...

Come on fanatics, you know better than to get pulled into another fabricated circus by these radio clowns again don't you?

If it's a fake, JP needs to come out and deny writing it. And this Matt Rainey kid needs to step up and admit it was a fake. Someone said he's a member of this site. Matt, is the email exchange legit or not?
