Well, I like to read this thread to stay updated on what's going on at the tournament, not to hear a rehashing of what should or should have happened last year.

FWIW, I have no hard feelings for Cael or Cyler or any of the Sanderson brothers. But, they're not on my team anymore, so outside of a general curiosity of did he win or lose, I don't care.

Okay...come back at 6.

Cool. I'm sure a lot of folks feel the same as you.

How can anybody put down the Sandersons after what they did for ISU wrestling? Thanks to Cael we can brag about having the best collegiate wrestler of all time, and likely always will since it's hard to beat perfection. What led to Cael even considering leaving ISU still baffles me, but I'll always be grateful to Cael and his brothers for what they did for ISU wrestling. The Gibbons may be close but I can't think of a greater ISU wrestling family than the Sandersons.

Obviously we would still like to have had Cyler, but I seriously doubt it's going to make a difference as to whether we would have won the title or not. Sure, it might impact whether we come in second, third, etc., but a wise man once told me, "If you're not first you're last."

It's possible that the combination of Cyler PLUS Gallick could have made a difference, but injuries are a part of wrestling.

But that guy admtted to being drunk when he said that.

Jeepers, Wally! I think we are all well aware of the Sanderson legacy at ISU. Taking a few jesting pot-shots at the enemy is not indefensible!

Cael Sanderson went to Penn State to take a national title from us, the Hawkeyes and anyone else who might contend. He's fair game. Cyler left his team in the lurch - of course, at the time I don't think that he realized he had a team: the Coach Sanderson approach is very much an individual thing (the fact is that Cael was so good that I don't think he can ever grasp the team approach the way that Coach Jackson inherently understands it. Cael was chasing perfection as an athlete, Jackson was chasing a team title, even though he didn't win an individual one for himself.)

Furthermore, a lot of this is simply a lament that we didn't score any points at 157 and a wondering out loud what Cyler might have done for us. I also think there's a chance that Coach Jackson would have coached Cyler better than Cael can.

In all honesty, I believe we have a better team under Jackson, and am glad that Cael is gone, not for anything personal: I just prefer Coach Jackson's approach, fire, expectation and clarity. I happen to think we'll have more success under Jackson than we did under Cael.

Don't get me wrong: I appreciate the changes Cael was able to bring, as well as the renewed heights - but I'm also glad he didn't stick around long enough to reach his limit as a coach, which I truly believe he was approaching.

If Z and V win titles, I'll consider this a successful season with everything that has happened.

Not with this much talent. Cael didn't exactly leave the cupboard bare. With our dual meet success, and with the way KJ was pointing for the Hawks, I think this has been a big let-down. Who knows when we'll have this much ability in the wrestling room again?

I am not bummed at all about not winning NC. Knew it was a huge longshot. Even if we had Gallick and Cyler, it would have hurt more to probably fall short again.

My main regret is that we blew a Big 12 title.

Plus, it is just disappointing that our last two teams have been very, very good, but happened to run into a combined Iowa-Va Tech squad that is clearly better. Sad to see how senior dominated Iowa and ISU are, and knowing that OSU will likely have a great shot at the title next year while we will be rebuilding without getting a decent shot. Unlucky timing for our seniors.

Iowa still has the same 9.9 schollies to give out like ISU...the two class thing has been worn out

We have to hang our hat on something, because honestly, not winning the B12 is about as bad as **** could've gotten.
