How 'bout Eddie Sutton then? Coached at USF for a while after OSU. :spinny:

I'd love it if Dr. Tom took the job. Not for the fun it would be with Hawk fans (though I'd enjoy it), but because he's a perfect fit for it and one of my favorite coaches ever.
He knows the game, he recruits pretty well (though that's not really his deal in this scenario), he is a fantastic teacher, and he's not looking for Fred's chair. His humility and personality would be a great fit.

Let's do it. Let's go get Dr. Tom!

Who do you want to be our grizzled, older veteran assistant coach?

I saw Fred's quote about wanting to have an experienced, ex-head coach as his next assistant coach hire.

What do you all think about Al Skinner, formerly of Boston College? Spent a lot of time at Boston College in the Big East/ACC and did a very good job out there. I wonder how he would feel about moving to the Midwest.

The same people identified on the other threads on this topic would be ok.

Dr. Tom Would be Perfect

Is he still living in Central Iowa? He is a teacher and this would be a great opportunity to do so again without the pressure of being a head coach. He would not only be teaching the players, but also Fred & staff. If the price is right, I don't see why he wouldn't do it. I don't think that being a former Hawk coach would matter in the least.

Davis still lives in Iowa City on Finkbine golf course in the same house he lived in while coaching at Iowa.

I would say Hallihan, but he has been out of the game as long as Johnny so I don't see that being a viable option. Maybe Larry Brown is ready for a new challenge...

So where did he live when he was coaching at Drake?

No one's telling him he has to sell his palatial home on the golf course - I'm sure the guy can find a nice condo in Ames when he has to be away from home during the basketball season...

If you grizzled, go for Eddie Sutton.

Charlie Spoonhour. Not realistic but as old and grizzled as I can think of.

How many assistant coaches does the NCAA allow. I think there is a limit at least on how many guys can recruit or scout off campus. Can you add unlimited other coaches by creating jobs like "Director of Basketball Operations" or "Video Tape Rewinding Expert" in order to skirt the rule.

I would like to put in my name for VTWE. I also can press the chapter skip button on DVD's.

Seriously, though, I would love Davis on our bench, but it probably would never happen.

My vote is still for Red Auerbach. Or John Chaney.
