Jared Homan. I think he would be a intriguing pick. He really would have Euro connections since hes still there, although i read on google he might go to the Phillipines. Certainly could teach players a few tricks and toughen them up.

Is this a joke? Or did you mean assistant coach at Iowa Central Community College? Everyone's third cousin once removed has Euro connections...

I think we've probably already been shot down, just a hunch. But at an assistant position I think that's ok as long as we eventually get our blue-haired Merlin.
Would be happy with any of these:
Steve Fisher (retired from Michigan & San Diego State)
John Cheney (retired from Temple)
Eddie Sutton
Dr. Tom
Don Meyer (Northern State U. coach who retired in Feb.)

It's going to be someone recommended by Tim Floyd, in my opinion. So find out who he has coached for or with that is now retired.

If it weren't so crucial to bring in some assitants with college experience, and it is, I'd say Freddy should call up Kevin McHale. Guy was a crappy NBA exec, but by all accounts he did do some nice work with KG in his early days.

You really think McHale is interested in being an assistant coach at the college level? In Ames? Making ISU assistant money?

He's been a head coach in the NBA, a (bad) GM in the NBA, and has plenty of TV opportunities. And it's not out of the realm of possibility that he is an NBA head coach again one day.

jdoggivjc- I never said Morgan was a superior coach, just better than some people will give him credit for. His accomplishments at ISU like 3 of 3 winning seasons, 4 top 10 wins and 4 post season wins were pretty good, especially compared to our last coach. Sorry about giving you more facts.

He's been a head coach in the NBA, a (bad) GM in the NBA, and has plenty of TV opportunities. And it's not out of the realm of possibility that he is an NBA head coach again one day.

I didn't say it was likely. And yes, I do think it is out of the realm of possibility that he'll be a head coach again, the only reason he got the chance in MN was because he gave himself the job. He was an ok GM in the beginning (drafting KG was either pure luck or a stroke of genius) and an OK tv commentator for the Wolves. I could see him working in another front office again, but I don't think he'll reach the heights he did in MN again. Like I said though, probably wouldn't happen and it wouldn't be the right hire now anyway.

Homan's Euro connections are extremley minor

The main point is he was a 1 or 2 star kid that improved every year and by the time he left was whipping North Carolina's National player of the year candidate. I am sure he has plenty to teach kids.

It is absolutely surreal reading a Cyclone fan trashing easily the best team we have had in the past 9 years, especially after the train wreck the past 5 years have been. Considering this team was the bright spot of the past decade, I can easily forget losing to a couple low level Big 12 teams and focus on the incredible winning streak and run towards the end of the season.

Plus, you obviously confused yourself with the numbers. That team was the 8th best defensive team in the country but was not a good offensive team at all. Very limited offensively with such a small rotation and few players with offensive talent.

2. Morgan was our coach within the last 5 years - so you're now saying that Morgan contributed to the train wreck that was the last 5 years? :wideeyed:

It more than likely isn't going to be a retired guy either. Just someone looking to get back into it but more than likely someone who has kind of failed at the top level of being a head coach. It isn't going to be Tom Davis, Bob Knight, Billy Gillispie, those types of hires. No way in hell would any one of those guys damage their egos enough to drop down to be Fred Hoiberg's assistant. Recent guys that have been fired though would be guys like Norm Roberts, Bobby Lutz, Jerry Wainwright, that type of hire!!

For example when Josh Pastner was looking for an older and experienced coach he hired Willis Wilson who had been the head coach at Rice for about 15 years but had been fired...

Skinny off guards - Dedric Willoughby
Combo guards - Jeff Hornacek
Small town point guards - Jacy Hollway
Big city point guards - Jamaal Tinsley
