Who do you believe? Chip Brown (Texas is committed to the Big 12/10) or Joe Schad (turn out the lights the party is over)?

The short answer: both are right.. and that is bad news for the rest of the conference.

Texas will be announcing today that they are committed to the Bebee plan and a '10' team Big 12. The only problem: Texas A&M is already out the door for the SEC and Texas knows it.

With only '9' teams and no A&M there is no Bebee plan and no more Big 12.

So yes, Texas will be committing its allegiance to the Big 12 today, but only because they know that it is already dead. Once A&M announces they are leaving for the SEC they (A&M) will be painted as the villain for putting the final nail in the coffin of the Big 12 and Texas, and company, will be free to move on to the Pac 10... which is what they have wanted all along.

Exactly. One last ploy from Texas to try and cast the blame on someone else.

Memphis will give $10 million per year, every year to be in a BCS conference.

Not Memphis Directly, The president of FedEx (headquartered in Memphis and whose son is one of their QBs) will give the conference 10MM. I'm guessing that they would want some advertising along with it but it would be worth it to bring in a great basketball school that we could beat up on in football.

Unless stopped by the TX politlcal wall, TAMU is gone, and we may be stuck as being a member of the TX harem.

Here's A&M choices.

Stay in the Big 12 and let Texas form their own network. That way the longhorns shadow over A&M doubles and they will never get out from under it.

Go to the SEC and get kicked around for a few years but eventually be very competitive because for the first time in history they have a very good hand to to show Texas high school recruits. Where do you want to play? At OSU, ASU, Arizona, CU, Texas Tech, OU and Utah or in the SEC stadiums?

Hate to say it but the SEC would be a good move for A&M.

I agree with this. The best thing that could ever happen for A&M is to crawl out from underneath Texas' shadow. While people like to compare the Texas/A&M situation to Iowa/Iowa State, that's exactly where it should end, because A&M is in a much better position than ISU. A&M was part of the revenue "haves" and was always part of the 4-team voting block preventing revenue sharing. They are doing more than fine, just behind Texas. The best thing for them would become an identity separate from Texas. They may always be #2 behind Texas, but they'd be just fine in the SEC.

There are 2 sides to the TAM move though. Other than TAM getting out of UT's shadow and competing for recruits on an equal basis .... it also gives SEC schools a real chance to recruit in the state of texas. It therefore gives some of the top SEC programs a chance to steal some of the best recruits from UT. So, TAM goes up a little and UT goes down a little (by losing out on some recruits) thereby equaling them out. That is why UT is dead set against TAM going to the SEC ... it hurts UT big time !!!!

The A$M recruits would also be getting poached by the SEC teams - net negative in comparison to the league they would be in. They get a worse record.

I think that Texas stays regardless. They have it all their own way. No one in opposition. A&M can think they are a player. But they aren't. This is all about Texas and Oklahoma. They can see that they will pretty much get two BCS berths every year for the Big XII. The Big Ten will now have a championship game. Probably only one BCS berth now. No more backing into two BCS berths.

The Big XII will pick up a couple replacement schools. The travel costs to the Pac will be astronomical. And trips to Washington, Oregon, WSU, and OSU are not cheap for all your conference sports.

Can someone explain to me why travel in a Pac 16 would be such a monster for any of the members? The way I'm looking at it, it shortens travel for everyone.

How, you ask? They would have two 8 team divisions. They would never have to play the other division until the conference title game, which could be centrally located.

How is A&M going to go up a little? A&M is very unlikely to start beating UT out for the best in-state recruits. It seems to me that the SEC stealing top recruits from UT (and the state of TX) will just lower the quality of recruits that A&M gets...

A Texas A&M move to the SEC would give them a license to cheat. Texas A&M was pretty good at cheating in the past and they could be good at it again. The SEC is a perfect fit for them.:biglaugh:

That would be a killer to UT. They would have to go to SEC at some point. Then their move to PAC 10 next year would be a useless packing of their baggage. best to sit tight in a Big 12 Minus.

Hey, this orangebloods stuff is starting to make sense. Bill Byrne is now driving the wagon under guidance from Tom Osbourne.

The legislature isnt even in session is it? The gov has said he wont get involved, and wouldnt the legislature taking action require a special session, called by the gov?

The governor is up for election, and he made that statement when it looked like UT/A&M were likely going the same direction. Now, it looks as if UT and A&M want to go separate ways. If it appears politically expedient for him to call a special session, he will.

Very simple.....aTM will open Texas up more to SEC recruiting. This will release the stranglehold that UT has on the top recruits in the state. aTm will have their own identity back, and will begin to get better recruits as SEC football expands their exposure in Texas. SEC football has produced the last 4 Nat`l Champions. It is a brilliant move by aTm!

Texas does NOT want this move by ATM, that's for sure. I too believe that the only reason UT is now on board with keeping the conference alive is the threat of ATM going to the SEC. If ATM were on board with the other South schools, they'd all be in the Pac16 by now. Instead, UT wants to make ATM out to be the bad guy even though they orchestrated this whole Pac 10 thing from the start.

UT doesn't really have a stranglehold on the top TX recruits. Stoops is already pulling plenty of them to OU. A&M is third in-line for TX recruits behind UT and OU. Moving to the SEC in itself isn't going to change that.
