Reality check Cyclone fans. This fan base is turning into a bunch of whiny crybabies. The fact that Texas, OU and A&M get an incentive not to leave is the free market at work, and anyone that thinks ISU didn't get a benefit as well has lost touch with reality. We remain in one of the best conferences in college sports. Memphis is willing to pay 10m per year to land in a BCS conference. To claim that we got no value from this is ignoring the truth.

No conference was beating down our door to add ISU. Even though some of the conference schools are being given incentives not to bolt to greener pastures this is still the best revenue alternative that we had available.

Whining and crying that things aren't fair isn't going to get us anywhere. If we want to change this culture we need start winning which will make us more attractive to the free market. If we do that, the rewards will follow.

I'm getting so tired of the attitude that is pervasive on this message board that things just aren't fair. I have news for folks. Life isn't fair. Accept it and move forward, and be thankful we are still relevant in the BCS.

This is like a nightmare. So the forgotten five really agreed to all of this? I can't believe they all laid down and just took it you know where.......
Is this really worth being texas's slave?
This isn't just talking about being "fair". This is down right extortion. This is like going to bed with the mob. The only schools who truly wanted the B12 to survive were the "5".

If there is no buyout money, and no new TV deal, why stay? I would find something else to do if I were the other 5 schools, and now maybe we have some time to explore other options. The conference won't survive like this. If Texas can just rewrite the rules whenever they want we can't really compete under that. This isn't any different than it was expect we get nothing, Texas gets more.

Buying time and thinking of the next steps.
At least we're still in the BCS.
I don't know whether we're allowed to create our own network but if we are, we can work with Mizzou-KSU-KU and Baylor and possibly any other teams in other conferences like Colorado State, TCU, etc.

So everyone who called out Deace for saying ISU is still getting bent over wany any of that back. I don't know why some of you have trouble accepting we are only ISU and are lucky to be getting any foot at all even if they are dinner scraps.

wow probably wouldnt consider this the greatest day in Iowa State's history, it bought us about 4-5 years (maybe) of being in a BCS conference, better than nothing I guess. Had the Big East been a viable option probably would have just taken that for 4-5 years until they get taken by other conferences, so we could at least be competitive in football

And yet at the end of the day - after evaluating all of the option - ISU and JP made the decision to stay put and stayed committed with the Big 12. It must really burn you that ISU spurned all of the other great offers from all the other great conferences but yet stayed put with the Big 12 and Texas. Why is that? WHY?

Do you really think ISU and JP wouldn’t have taken a better offer if one was offered? ISU had no other place to go.

Right now this is the best offer and probably the only legit offer but they had no choice. Do you really think that JP and GG would flirt with other conferences with the risk of being caught, like Missou, while the Big 12 was still together?

This is the smart thing to do now and will hopefully buy us some time to find something better whether it be in the Big 12 or something else.

Perhaps you should go back and read the thread - he said ONLY ISU got screwed. AT LEAST 4 other schools (MU, KU, K-State, and Baylor) and possibly 2 others (TT and OSU) were also screwed in this.

I hope it's only buying time, and I hope a contingency plan comes to fruition soon that benefits us. At what price to remain a bcs school? Is it really a bcs school with bcs dreams when you get completely ****** on?

Why is it a suprise that we took this? The reality is we bring nothing to the conference in terms of football revenue which is what this is all about. Maybe if we didn't have an all time win % of .300 in the Big8-12 conference we would have more leverage. Maybe if we had one conference title EVER we would have more leverage. Maybe if we sold out our stadium once in a while we would have more leverage. Maybe if we had a real stadium we would have more leverage. Maybe if our inflatable helmet was larger we would have more leverage.

Unfortunately for us none of that is the case

Are you suggesting that the "Forgotten Five" form a "Union" to negotiate better terms?:wideeyed::wideeyed:

The difference is the other schools are viable long term in the conference. I don't think we can say that.

But but but, ISU has all those other great offers that would actually generate less revenue while increase the travel expenses and overall resulting in less donations. Damn ISU, GG, and JP for making the prudent business decision. Damn them and Texas.

Other big schools don't screw over their conference members. Ohio State could stick it to Northwestern if they so chose to I imagine. Why is that, exactly?

Tech and OSU didn't get any money either.

We do sell out our stadium. This is all about TV sets, national image and power. Texas and Oklahoma, being the complete whores that they are, took all of us to the woodshed. They were willing to sell us all out in a heartbeat. No problem.

Well said. Take it all as a wake-up call. You want to be in the BCS? You are. Maybe its time to start acting like it. Quit moaning and make ISU what you want it to be.

We sell out our stadium for the big games. The big dogs like Texas (or even Iowa) sell out for teams like Montana state.

Guys you are looking at this all wrong. Of course we got screwed, we were always going to get screwed, it was only a question of how bad.

This deal is kind of like getting prison raped, but taking satisfaction that it didn't last too long and the other guy wore a rubber.

Texas and Oklahoma aren't the whores - they're the pimps. We're the whores that just got *****-slapped by our pimp...
