Re: Next Vikings Coach

I think Chilly will be gone. The Vikes are going to be in full-on rebuilding mode next year, and I don't they will want to do with that with Childress. They have a huge number of veteran players who will be free agents next year, and I think they will let most of them go.

I'd expect them to hire Frazier if they can, or some other up and coming coordinator.

With Childress at an 80% dissapproval rating with Vikings fans in the twin cities and Wilf wanting to build a new stadium, Childress's debacle of a season so far will probably cause Wilf to kcik Chilly to the curb and put LF in the driver's seat before the end of the year.

I bet Kirk Ferentz's name will be mentioned as a candidate

I have a lot of friends and acquaintances who've been life-long Vikings fans, but are sincerely considering dropping from the fanbase if Childress continues to coach the team.

I myself haven't gone that far yet, but sincerely think the team is going in the wrong direction. Not just because we've lost games, but because we seem to have failed 1) to develop talent, especially at QB, and 2) can't seem to utilize existing talent.

A team with Brett Favre at QB, Adrian Peterson at RB, Randy Moss/Percy Harvin/Sidney Rice/Bernard Berrian at WR can't find an offense? Are you kidding me? Now, I'll admit that this year, we also have had to deal with injuries, but so do other teams. On top of that, a DL that was supposed to be one of the better ones in the league has yet to get a sack in the last few games, and a once top defense has been unable to make crucial stops. Personally, what frustrates me is that this team is too good to be so bad. If we lacked talent, I could understand. But that's not the case for us.

Re: Next Vikings Coach

It is a franchise that went years before giving up on Mike Tice.

The difference is that the decision to keep Tice around for that long was done by Red McCombs, not Zigy Wilf. Wilf has shown a willingness to spend money and a strong desire to have a winning team. McCombs was just trying to pay as little as possible, then sell the team for a much as possible.

I don't know if Chilly will be let go, but the methods of Wilf are much more "aggressive" than McCombs'.

Assuming Childress is gone -

Next Coach will be: Leslie Frazer

Next Coach should be: John Fox

Next Coach I would like to see: Brian Billick

Re: Next Vikings Coach

Next head coach should be Frazier and it's not close.

As a Packer fan, feel free to keep Childress around as long as you want.

I gotta agree with this. I see absolutely nothing to gain by keeping Childress around any longer. He's got a good headstart out the door just by being in the doghouse with the owner.

Re: Next Vikings Coach

I think all of us Viking fans know that Childress will not be the coach next year, or he might not even make it this whole season. I just have a question for all of you. Who do you want for coach? Would you like to promote Fraizer to head coach or go look for someone else? I think he would do a fine job, but if it was me i'd go after Jon Gruden.
Although I'd hate to see another Vikings assistant go on to success elsewhere, I'd put Bill Cowher on the list above everyone else, even if it means losing LF.

John Fox isn't even done running Carolina into the ground yet, why do you want to hire him?

Is Cowher interested in coaching again? I don't think he is at this time. As a Vikings fan since 1969, I don't want Gruden as Head Coach -- a bigger mismatch since Vikings - Moss. Billick alienates his players too often. Frazier would provide a lot of continuity while hiring the next hot assistant coach, so he'd be a good choice. Forget Ferentz, he's at SUI for the long term, perhaps for life.
