Models coming into better agreement, looks like a advisory level snowfall for most of the state. My guess is that a portion of SW Iowa will be put under a Winter Storm Watch later this afternoon. Here's my early predicted snowfall map(note: might be underestimating totals but I place a greater weight with Euro and Operational GFS which happen to be the driest with this storm).

Whats the latest and greatest WX'ers?

What model do you generally use that is most accurate this far out?

Time frame for when it will hit and amount of snow please!

Looking like a good hit western portion of the state. In terms of models the best to choose from are and roughly in this order: Euro, GFS, Ukmet, NAM, CMC. Generally you try to look for a model consensus and disregard outliers. Issues arise of course when models form 2 different consensus's or there is just a wide spread altogether(this second one is quite rare 72 hrs in). Onset of snow should be Sunday afternoon in far western Iowa and gradually ease into the eastern portions of the state by Monday morning

My general snow totals: US 71 and westward(Spencer-Carroll-Clarinda): 6-9 inches
Between US 71 and a line from Mason City to Ottumwa: 3-6
East of Mason City to Ottumwa- 1-3

Sorely tempted to push those totals all a county or two eastward but I'm concerned about dry air from the high located to our north being shoved into this system and decreasing totals.

Totals looking heavier, likely need to move the 5-9 line to the I-35 corridor. Probably will be an area close to the Missouri River that gets +9 inches.

I love the weather forecast in Iowa. 6 days ago 4 or so inches, 5 days ago a dusting, 3 days ago nothing, 2 days ago 2-4 inches out of a different system, now 5-12 inches.

Friday night the family and I drove from Clive to Waterloo, holy crap. This was the first time in years I have been truly scared. I was driving on highway 20 and had to stop several times. Everything was pretty much fine until highway 20. I think it only lasted about 25 miles but going 15 MPH and having to stop because you could not see anything in front of your hood is scary. My 4 year old was hiding under his blanket and told he was praying because he was scared.

I never want to go through that again.

20 is really bad along a stretch as you get closer to Waterloo. There's nothing to block the snow from blowing and it causes a lot of drifts and ice on the roads.

Winds and snow rate should not be a big issue with this storm. While heavy final totals may fall its going to be over a long period of light to moderate snow.

An Iowa snow with no wind? Come on now, that is unheard of.

I haven't been paying attention to the weather forecasts, but I wonder if they will end up closing ISU on Monday. This hardly ever occurs unless there is bad weather as all the students are returning from home.

Oh don't worry, there will be several ***Official*** threads for a storm of this magnitude.

Well how big is it really going to be then? Is it a we are going to get 5 inches but only get 1 or is it a we are going to get 5 inches and get 12.

We won't know for sure until we can count the threads. Until then, all we can do is wait. Oh, go to HyVee and buy any food you can get your hands on, and then wait.
