I'll admit that its not as bad as I thought it would be, but CR is way too run down and blue collar for me. I'm just used to the awesomeness of Ames and rural life I guess.

WMT did a story a while back where they said that nothing under 12 was ticketed on 380 and nothing over 7 on the stop lights. Its actually pretty reasonable.... I guess.

I will say one thing for sure, people's driving habits have changed driving on 380, and honestly I don't really care for it because at rush hour usually all 3 lanes are driving the speed limit or 5 under. I have not changed my driving style at all I still try to travel at 5 mph over the limit but sometimes it is hard to even get going that fast.

12 over in a 30 mph zone is probably ticket worthy.

I agree though, nothing under 5 should be worth a ticket.
Looks like someone was busted for doing 32 mph. Wonder if the speed limit was 30 or 25.

Me beingthe lucky guy I am, I have gotten 2 tix already. I never drive more than 7 mph over the limit but yet both my tickets were for 13mph over exactly. My problem is that it seems that they dont have any specific proof of what speed you are going. Its just a pic of your vehicle with a typed in speed. They could just randomly take a pic and just draw a number out of hat and put it with your vehicle. Also, why the hell are we having to pay the state of NY to process this. Great idea, lets give our "state generated revenue" to NY.

What I've gathered is that in town anything over 6 over is ticketable and on the interstate its 11 and over.

Where did you gather that?

From the database online (link is a couple posts back) I have yet to see anyone get a citation for anything less than 12 over.

Just FYI - CR 1st ave and 10th street w. has one of those camera radar devices -- got me at 42 in a 30mph = $75 bucks..............Came in the mail yesterday. You have to mail the check to someplace in New York.

When Gene Chizik speeds, the police pay him.

You're right, you can tell that everyone tries to drive the speed limit as soon as it goes down to 55 near downtown. I actually always laugh at that one guy who's trying to go 5-10 over and is weaving through traffic, so sorry if it was you lol

Nah I don't get aggressive at all I just set the cruise and go with the flow. I see those same people though. The ones passing you just to get between you and the next can in a line of traffic. I always keep a decent distance between me and the car in front of me no matter what speed I am traveling at.

They should ticket 10mph over, people that run red lights, and idiots on cell phones who almost hit me crossing the street this morning on my way to work. The moron didn't even see me (could've hit her passenger mirror) due to the sun and cell phone glued to her face, but luckily she was able to roll through the intersection in order to beat the on coming car.

A couple things about the camera, because they **** me off in general...
-if no one knows they're there, is a 8% drop in accidents really their doing? Was this well publicized?
-what ever happened to a Warning? Maybe the 5 -10 over crowd (probably majority of drivers) should've been notified via phone call about the fact that they were speeding and next time it's a ticket.
-are they called ATM machines or do they have another name for them?

Especially since speedometers aren't always accurate... Fortuantly mine errs on the side of caution,

Look out, Flag Guy. Your life may be in danger! Recall, the government OWNS GM. They intentionally set the speedometer fast on vehicles so you accumulate miles quicker. You are more apt to trade vehicles because of this.
==========
Red light violations caught on camera begin at $129 in WA state.

-what ever happened to a Warning? Maybe the 5 -10 over crowd (probably majority of drivers) should've been notified via phone call about the fact that they were speeding and next time it's a ticket. On highways you get a warning for going between 7-11 mph over the limit and a ticket for 12 over. On side streets they give tickets for 8 mph and over. Warnings for 5-7 mph over.
-are they called ATM machines or do they have another name for them?
can't disagree with this one

I don't care for the cameras but they don't bother me because I don't drive fast enough to get a ticket and have never ran a red light.

I want to see how many of these are for speeding vs. red light. Instead of calling them red light cameras, they should be called anal-5-mph-over-cameras

For all those that are for this camera's, I assume you'd be ok if they gave you a ticket for going 56 in a 55.

Well, in regards to the CR cameras you are flat wrong.

They have a complete database of all the tickets on the gazette website (currently through 12/15) and I didn't find a single instance where a ticket was given for less than 12 over.

why would you assume that?

I'm for the cameras as long as there is a >10 mph buffer between the speed limit and the ticket speed.

there is a link upthread where you can see how many red light vs speeding tickets are given in cedar rapids. It seems to really vary depending on the intersection.

and in CR they only give tickets for 12+mph over the limit.

You didn't look very hard, on streets where the speed limit is 35 mph or lower the threshold is 7 mph. So I guess you are flat wrong.
